I agree about Mormonism, but your inclusion of Catholicism is curious. Most of the Christian doctrines in use today (the definition of the trinity, that Jesus was equally God and Man, etc.) were put forth by Catholics and defended by the Catholic Church against heretics who denied them. Are you of the opinion that anyone who called themselves a Christian prior to the 1600s was not a true Christian and didn't really know Jesus?
bill, you might be told that Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) was more of a charismatic pentecostal which is why the Catholics gave him such a hard time at first. And that if he prayed a bit more, he would have become the first Baptist.
