I started posting this prayer on the Daily Mass threads the night Obama was elected in 2008. I agree with the author and Bishop Jenky completely.

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
Cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
 Amen

GOD IS PRO-LIFE!!!

Pray For The End Of Abortion, Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide, Infanticide, And For The Defeat Of The Culture Of Death!!!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church
On Respect for Human Life
Sections 2259 – 2283
(From the Holy See Website)

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16 (KJV)

PRAYER TO END ABORTION

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life,
And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.
I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,
Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death
by the Resurrection of Your Son.
I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.
Today I commit myself
Never to be silent,
Never to be passive,
Never to be forgetful of the unborn.
I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement,
And never to stop defending life
Until all my brothers and sisters are protected,
And our nation once again becomes
A nation with liberty and justice
Not just for some, but for all,
Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

Sancte Michael Archangele,
defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits,
who wander about the world seeking the destruction of souls.
Amen.

Pope Leo XIII

In my Parish, St. Mar of the Mills, in Laurel, Maryland, we had an outstanding Pastor Emeritus, Msgr. Keesler, who led a Latin Mass every Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Before the Mass, the Rosary was led by a long-standing parishioner, closed by a short succession of prayers, culminating in the Prayer to St. Michael Archangel, my favorite prayer. Msgr. Keesler led this Mass every Sunday morning well into his nineties.

I had the privilege of serving as cantor at this Mass for over a decade. Msgr. Keesler was a sterling man and a holy priest of God. His sermons were vigorous, timely and cogent. He never shied from battle against the numerous evils afflicting society and was a hero of the Pro-Life Movement. HHe was the senior priest of the Archdiocese of Washington, in terms of time in service, having been ordained by Baltimore's Archbishop Curley in 1936 before the establishment of the Archdiocese of Washington. He passed on to his reward several years ago and we miss him dearly. The Latin Mass is still celebrated at our Parish, but only on a monthly basis, rather than weekly.

I go to St Michael’s church in Georgia. This great prayer is said after every Mass. The priests in charge are very conservative. They have a great prolife group too. They helped shut down a local abortion mill. Amen!! Amen! Great post!!

Whether it is spiritual or physical warfare the power of prayer is so mighty when many do it together. Here is a famous example: http://www.pattonhq.com/prayer.html

Wonderful idea, but it would be better if the bishops mandated it across the board and not just one bishop or a priest here and there across the country, but that is just me.

For children, the children’s version of the book, “Heaven is for Real”, the little child in question that had the NDE, when he was in he was in Heaven for a short time, said he saw St. Michael the Archangel and said he is very tall.

I named my 5 year old after St. Michael. He is all boy and he loves to say this prayer before bedtime. I had never thought about how this prayer is such a manly prayer that would appeal to boys. My son loves the thought of St. Michael fighting against the devil to save our souls. He even swings his imaginary sword as we say “defend us in battle”.

The Church needs more masculine imagery and use of this prayer would be a great start.

I like this Bishop. He doesn't hold anything back :-)

And I love the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel and *try* to say it everyday (though like all humans am not perfect at that). It's something 'very special' to me.

My son's parish in overland Park, KS is St. Michael the Archangel. It's a new church, and I love the statue in their courtyard. (See below)

You don't see new churches installing grand statues much anymore. It gives me a lift every time I see it. The new architects of Catholic Churches sometimes forget what the ancients knew: there are are many ways to enhance the Faith beyond preaching and reading -- stained glass, music, light, mosaics, art, incense, and sculpture.

About three years ago, I suggested to my pastor that this prayer be recited after every Mass. He agreed enthusiastically. It has been good not just for us but for visiting laity and clergy who’ve not been exposed to it.

Along with St. Michael's Prayer, they need to bring back a bit of the respectful behavior that used to be common. What's that take in the way of discipline these days?
