Not a word was heard from the Vatican all the years Sderot babies were in mortal danger. They began noticing the violence last week.
Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Vatican Council for Culture, commenting on the war between Israel and Hamas, delivered a severe attack on the Jewish people: I think of the massacre of the innocents. Children are dying in Gaza, their mothers shouts is a perennial cry, a universal cry.
The Catholic Church high official equated Israels operation in Gaza against terror groups with the New Testament story of Herods slaughter of Jewish babies in his effort to kill Jesus.

So note that the entire sentence, context etc. are made-up, like the rest of the article
I ask You to note that before posting such tripe. Next I'd see a post by you linking to the hateful Protocols of the Elders of Zion... -- both are utter tripe.
The sad thing is when people repeat it -- so I'd urge you to not repeat either..
So note that the entire sentence, context etc. are made-up, like the rest of the article. So, yes, that quote is manufactured by anti-Christians.
but it's sad when reasonable people repeat these guys
I just think the Pope should come out unequivacally for Good over Evil when it most counts.
What he may have said yesterday is not today.
Do you deny that children are dying in Gaza? Do you deny that their mothers do not or should not grieve? Do you deny that the deaths of any child in a war is an injustice and that the Church or any church should not see justice?
Peace be with you.
And have you read what the Pope has said? "I appeal to the authorities on both sides to take courageous decisions in favor of peace and bring an end to a conflict with negative repercussions on the entire Middle East, which is already tormented by too many conflicts and so in need of peace and reconciliation," the pontiff said.
"I feel the need to once again say that hate and violence are not solutions to problems. I also encourage the efforts of those working for a truce and to promote negotiations," he said.
Let me guess, you haven't read this anywhere -- the media certainly doesn't want to publish things like this do they..."hate and violence" -- who were the ones who started this firing? Hamas? Who tried diplomacy first? The Israelis. Who continued to fire rockets even after the cease-fire? Hamas
Hate and violence as we see here is from Hamas, not from Israel
did you, onedoug, read about this? No. And yet everyone is demanding "why has he not said anything", yet when he does, there is silence. why?

also, onedoug, note that you said "the Pope has some splaining to do" -- what explaining? firstly this CArdinal didn't even say what this false, lying article says he says, secondly what he did say was in a different context and not about Israel but about conflict in the ME for centuries as a whole as a comment on a book
thirdly, should the pope respond to every lie posted by Arutz and other Main stream media?
This is the MSM which doesn't report The recent barrage of rocket attacks from Gaza into Southern Israel represents a continuing pattern of morally unjustifiable uses of indiscriminate force against civilians, - Bishop Richard Pates, Chairman of the USCCB Justice-and-Peace Committee

I asked about the quote, not anything else.
I don’t know whether this is the source or not, but it attributes the same statement to the Cardinal without making any additional point.
So it seems, according to what appears to be another unrelated source that the statement was made.
Do you wish to still argue that the Cardinal did not make the statement?
This is an important point.
I'm asking you about the context, not anything else. Within the actual context in which it was spoken, do you think the article accurately represents the Cardinal's statement and the position of the Catholic Church or do you join me in condemning the article and the spirit in which it has been embraced in this thread?
I stand behind my statement that Lera should be ashamed of his text book example of passive aggressive behavior in his drive by posting, but there was nothing passive about the rabid support and high fiving that followed from the usual anti-Catholics.
Peace be with you.
“I’m asking you about the context, not anything else.”
Why ask for context if the statement wasn’t made at all. Are you stating that the statement WAS made?
Cronos says the statement wasn’t even made. I found another source that makes no extraneous points or extrapolations.
Do you believe the statement was uttered in any context at all?
Thank you. I was rather livid upon passing over the headline.
That single quote was the anchor statement upon which the entire lie was sold. As this thread proves the common propaganda technique was very effective when told to people who want to believe it. It is no different than telling eager Germans that "we are the master race".
Do you deny that that single quote was completely distorted by the following two paragraphs from the linked story to mean something it was never intended to and, as I stated earlier, never said by the Cardinal?
They've left the building......emptied the dumpster in the front lobby and driven off.
Even without the actual transcript of Ravasi's speech, this didn't pass the smell test. Nowhere else on the web is this reported. There are links, such as that at Jihad Watch, to this very article but nothing else. That fact alone should be enough to alert anyone with a little common sense that the flamebait of a headline posted above was the work of this author and not the words of Ravasi.
There is absolutely no question that had Ravasi uttered these words, there would have been multiple independent reports of them in all the usual media outlets, starting with the Catholic Church's greatest friend, The New York Times.
There are none and the transcript of Ravasi's words confirms my initial suspicions.
This thread is nothing but a useless kook magnet.
“Do you deny that that single quote was completely distorted by the following two paragraphs from the linked story to mean something it was never intended to and, as I stated earlier, never said by the Cardinal?”
I don’t know whether the statement was even made. I found another source that has not been refuted.
Did the Cardinal make the statement or not?
Actually, Cronos was quoting me from my post #35 and I was referring to the headline "The Vatican on Gaza; Israel is a Baby-Killer". I will again unequivocally state the Cardinal did not say that.
The rancor in this thread is over the complete fabrication of a Vatican statement delivered by a Cardinal that never happened and its gleeful acceptance by those who choose to believe the worst about the Church. Subsequent parsing of the posts and arguments over what the definition of is is does not diminish the truth that the entire article and many of the posts in support of it are complete lies. Please distance yourself from that.
Peace and Blessings on this Thanksgiving.
