Since lots of FReepers claim to be able to tell who is a Jew based on their name, why couldn’t a muzzie learn the same secret?

really? Who? I think its from the stereotype of “stein” being Jewish, when it could be an ending for a non-Jewish germanic person, and then the people are forgetting the numbers of Sephardic, Yemeni, Bene-Israeli, Baghdadi etc. Jews

Trying to gigure out if someone is Jewish from a name has lots of pitfalls.

Some names, like Shapiro, for instance are rather obvious. Others which are Germanic are problematics. Names like Klein, Stein, Friedmann, Marx, etc. are ubiquitous throughout the German speaking world and have absolutely nothing to do with being Jewish.
