Featured Term (selected at random):
CLERICAL DRESS
The normal distinctive ecclesiastical garb of Catholic priests in the Western Church is a black cassock indoors and a clerical collar and suit for outdoors. In some countries this varies somewhat, but the Church's legislation about priests wearing a garb that distinguishes them from the laity is mandatory. The Catholic Eastern clergy in Western countries follow the pattern of the place where they reside. In other places they may wear a black gown, turban, and similar characteristic dress.

It's rare to see a priest in cassock these days. However, we have had several curates in my parish who still wear them. Needless to say, these priests are dyed-in-the-wool conservatives.
