Rep. Paul Ryan has been taking flak from church groups including the relatively conservative U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the somewhat more liberal group Nuns on the Busbecause his budget could cut money from programs for the poor and elderly.
Now a group of fellow Catholics from his home state of Wisconsin, including some Franciscan Friars, are calling for the vice presidential hopefuls conversion. The group launched a website, PrayforPaulsChangeofHeart.org, that asks visitors to Please pray for Paul Ryan, a devout Catholic, to have a change of heart on the federal budget. It includes a special Rosary prayer to St. Paul, the great convert, to bring about a transformation in the anti-deficit Republican.
The website also seeks prayers for Vice President Joe Biden, a Catholic who supports abortion rights. And the organizers say their prayers are going out for President Obama, Governor Romney and all our national leaders, that their hearts may be moved to give greater priority to the well-being of the poor and most vulnerable, both the born and preborn.
Mr. Ryans spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No, that;s why we are BAPTIZED!!
Ah yes. Another bunch of Obama dupes but these are Catholics. What a joke. Some even are Franciscans. Yet, they certainly do not lead the lifestyle preached and followed by St. Francis of Assisi. In fact, most Franciscan Friars lead a rather comfortable life. Just maybe they should cut back on their high living styles and donate that money to the IRS. Never going to happen. I am also willing to bet these same Catholics have no use for Pope Benedict.
“including the relatively conservative U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops “
Amen on your comments. The staff at the USCCB are mostly far-out leftists, frequently former Democrat staffers. Since they control the agenda for the bishops who are a.) mostly off doing their day job, and b.) from Democrat family backgrounds dating back to the immigrant periods and blue collar origins of Catholics before they advanced up the ladder of success.
A Pope Benedict would be more comfortable with Paul Ryan than these democrat apostates masquerading as Catholics, like Biden, Leahy, Mikulski, the Kennedys, and Pelosi.
Did they also ask for prayers for biden the pro abortion “Catholic”, if that is even possible.
Now I understand. Maybe it's time for Jesus to drive the money changers (unfaithful) from the temple (again), I'd settle for Timothy Dolan cleaning house (bell, book, and candle)!

And faith without works is dead.
Having a third party confiscate the property of one citizen and give it to another citizen who has no claim on that property is an act of charity.

Is it proper for Catholics to pray that God makes someone agree with your political point of view?
Paul Ryan has already been converted -- Perhaps Ryan's Bishop will speak to these wayward thinkers.

How does that follow?

Now, there's an interesting question.
The general rule is: anthing you can legitimately want, you can legitimately pray for.
I don't think praying for someone ever hurts them --- I mean, it's a blameless act, even if you're going about it wrong-headedly.
But this tendency to simply encode one's "agenda" by casting it in the form of a prayer --- especially in public --- is more than a little problematic.
I think that's one reason why, when people are allowed to simply pipe up about whatever they want in the the "Prayers for the Faithful" part of the Mass, it can get pretty embarrassing. It's either planks of the Democractic and Repblican platforms clashing together like crossed swords, or personal stuff that shouldn't be broached out loud. You can imagine something like, "I pray that Joe Smith may propose to me," vs. "I pray that Joe Smith may propose to ME!"
Maybe that's why they've gotten back to just having the priest read it all by the book, instead ... :o/
This is Rape Prayer, not real prayer. This is misusing the concept of prayer as a political shaming propaganda technique, and as such, it is a sin, promoted by liars and hypocrites.
I am a pretty good Catholic and I would advise these groups to donate their TAX FREE DOLLARS to further their leftist nonsense!!!
didn't James mention something like faith without good works is meaningless???
“Another reason I dont call myself a Catholic.”
I call myself a Catholic. This is NOT Catholic dogma.
In fact, I heard a bishop on EWTN Catholic Shortwave radio say he met with Paul Ryan, and Paul Ryan is trying to help out his country. I believe this bishop was the bishop in Paul Ryan’s diocese. Not all bishops, priests, et al agree on the same thing, unless it is dogma or an intrinsic evil. They are individuals.
Thanks for your post #32. I just commented on the first link. I hope folks will click at least one, or two, of your links and get all sides, instead of knee-jerk reactions.
