Yeah, I left ‘Christianity Lite’ a few decades ago. Now I am not even sure about using a Christ reference wrt the ELCA.
If the Response is approved by the synod's convention in 2013, the LCMS officially would no longer consider the ELCA (or XXXA) to be a Christian church body (that's what apostasy means), although there may be erring Christians still attending XXXA gatherings. XXXA baptisms would be considered as sacramentally worthless as faux-baptisms done by Mormons.
As the 2009 XXXA Church Wide Assembly wrapped up their meeting which had approved ordaining active homosexuals two days earlier, on Friday, August 21, 2009, Rev. Matthew Harrison, now LCMS President and a member of the Commission issuing the Response, answered a question on Issues, Etc. (at 9:16) from the host, Rev. Todd Wilken:
Wilken: Is apostasy too strong a word to describe what weve watched over the last better part of the decade that culminates this afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America?
Harrison: No, it is apostasy. Theres no way around it. It gives me great pain to say that, but theres no other word for it.
