Archbishop J. Peter Sartain of Seattle, who has been charged by the Vatican with responsibility for supervising a reform of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), has been told by the groups leaders that his presence would not be helpful at the LCWRs annual assembly this week.
As the LCWR prepared for the annual meeting, at which members will discuss the Vaticans demand for reform, the groups president, Sister Patricia Farrell, told reporters that the group would continue to question Church teachings. She expressed concern that in the Vaticans eyes, that questioning is seen as defiance.
I would also say that there are very few doctrines in the Church that are not discussable, that are absolutely infallible, the LCWR president said. She voiced her conviction that the women religious of the LCWR would continue raising and responding to questions, according to our own consciences and according to new information and questions that arise in our day.
The LCWR will discuss the Vaticans call for reform, and the results of an apostolic visitation that pointed to serious problems with the umbrella group, which represents most of the womens religious orders in the US. Sister Farrell said that she did not anticipate a vote on how the LCWR should respond, however. Our process of discernment is typically not taking a vote, she said.
Although the Vaticans critique of the LCWR will be foremost in the minds of members, Sister Farrell reminded reporters that we do have other important things to talk about during the annual assembly.

That’s a really pretty poster, but it looks like it’s advertising a modern dance performance.

Lol! These “nuns” have strayed so far off track (and they KNOW this) that they definitely don’t want the Bishop to have a more in-depth view of the beliefs they are REALLY cultivating.

but it looks like its advertising a modern dance performance. Reminded me of Mahony's "liturgical dance" . . . well, same thing, I guess . . .

Amazing and breathtaking. Nuns(?) telling the representative of the Vatican to take a hike. These aren't the dedicated women who taught me, but then those ladies were totally selfless and devoted to their calling. Don't know what the purpose of these “new” nuns are, but I suspect it's some sort of social justice mumbo jumbo.

Reminded me of Mahony's "liturgical dance" ...Except that a modern dance performance people are paying to see could be expected to have talented dancers and professional choreography ;-).

LOL! Though actually the video clip I remember in Mahony's "cathedral" showed dancers that weren't bad. And they looked a lot better than another clip I saw of "liturgical dancers" who were middle-aged, about 50 pounds overweight (maybe 70 pounds overweight for a dancer!), not noticeably lithe, but swaddled in those diaphanous drapes -- now they were totally embarrassing to watch, regardless of theological concerns!

Oy. There is a place for dancing as an expression of religious fervor, but it’s not during Mass or any other liturgy.

. . . told by the groups leaders that his presence would not be helpful They're going to be spinning out a whole new series of lies for their media pals so of course anyone who is actually Catholic, much less an Archbishop, wouldn't "helpful". I don't understand why why the Vatican hasn't just excommunicated the lot of them and abolished their lesbian coven rather than letting them continue to pretend they're Catholic.
