Gospel Reading: Matthew 10:24-33
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master; it is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.
So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Fathers will. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. So every one who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father who is heaven; but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father who is in heaven. (Mt 10:24-33 RSV)
Prayer: Jesus, when You say that it is enough for the disciple to become like the Master. You are expressing the vocation of all Christians. No matter where we live out our lives, we are called to the same Way, Truth, and Life. We are called to be like You.
Teach us to speak as You Spoke words of love, forgiveness, healing, comfort.
Teach us to go where You went to the poor, helpless, discouraged, suffering, lonely, loveless.
Teach us to desire what You lived for: to do the will of the Father in all things.
We offer You at this moment our whole lives: all we are, have and want to be.
Love us so we will become like You. Amen.
Daily Marriage Tip for July 14, 2012:
Teach your child (or a neighbor child) a value this weekend but do it without saying a word. Consider faithfulness to a promise, self-control, goodness, gentleness, modesty, chastity. Which of these fruits of the Holy Spirit is the biggest challenge for you?
