Most Christians Have No Idea What Mormons Believe [LDS truth claims oft' tucked away by Mormons]
Christian Newswire ^ | June 7, 2012

TORRANCE, Calif., June 7, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- There are more than a dozen key differences in the beliefs of Christians and Mormons, yet most Christians have no idea.

In a recent article in the Christian magazine, World, author Joel Belz made this statement:

"A huge majority of the American public has no idea what Mormons claim to believe. If those holding to the Mormon faith were to place their distinctive truth claims front and center, the public response would be probing, negative, and nasty." -- World Magazine, God's World Publications, online June 16, 2012 edition (Vol. 27, No. 12)

For starters, official Mormon teachings include the belief that God the Father was once a man who progressed to godhood and that worthy men may one day become gods themselves.

On the topic of Jesus, official Mormon doctrine holds that Jesus' death on the cross did not provide full atonement for all sin. There is no concept of the Trinity. Rather, Mormonism is polytheistic, having multiple gods.

Everyone -- whether you are religious or just curious -- should know the differences. A free side-by-side comparison chart showing differences between Mormonism and Christianity is available as a free download for your computer or iPad. It can be printed for personal or group use. This objective chart simple compares the beliefs of Mormonism and Christianity in eight key areas.

Judiciary: Two February appointments broke a 74-year tradition of having at least one non-Mormon justice. Critics cite bias. June 11, 2000 |PAUL FOY | ASSOCIATED PRESS SALT LAKE CITY — When Utah's Supreme Court upheld prayers at government meetings as a legacy of Utah's Mormon heritage, four of the five justices were Mormons...The latest appointments by Gov. Mike Leavitt underscore the dominance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah affairs. "Anybody who lives here knows where all the power is," says Matt Gilmore, 90, a lawyer who for many years was general counsel to the Utah Tax Commission. "You got a Supreme Court that's all Mormon, a Legislature that's practically all Mormon, an executive department headed up by a Mormon and a Republican Party that's all Mormon." That may not be surprising for a state founded by a church theocracy and still 70% Mormon. But Leavitt's two February appointments broke a tradition that dates from 1926 of having at least one non-Mormon on the high bench...Now, from local to federal courts in Utah, members of one faith overwhelmingly rule the bench.

All-Mormon Supreme Court Spells Theocracy to Disgruntled Utahans [GF]

But GF, there's no religious bigotry in Utah, doncha know?

Otherwise, the self-appointed Mormon bigot patrol that acts as FR sentries would have told us lonnggggggg ago!

I am old enought to remember when folks made comments like yours but the offending group were ‘joos’ that were considered insidious. As a nation, a people professing freedoms we haven’t come very far it would appear. Got to have that little group of insidious insiders to mistrust. Sadly, this is now beyond opposition to the IMS and focused upon the adherents as ‘the offense among us’. Disgusting

And what does the Constitution say about State’s rights?

And is there anything from preventing anyone from challenging that?

Try such a challenge in Muslim contries.

If the people dunked are dead, they do not care about it.

Evangelizing is a lot different than conversion at the end of a sword.

Why don’t you go out and evngelize your ideas instead of griping?

For all you whiners.

I am not Mormon. I think that Mormon theology is contradictory and irrational.

But I know and work with lots of Mormons. As a rule, they are good citizens, neighbors, family people and they are a moral people.

Give me them for neighbors rather than bigots, and secularists and the ignorant in our country who do not know that “Progressive” is just newspeak for leftover Marxism and/or people who don’t even know what that is.

I am beginning to understand why people dislike Freepers. This thread is an embarrassment to human intelligence.

mormonism is anti-Christian.
Individual mormons my be great neighbors, friends and family, they are still are deceived.
Some people evangelize in person, some on the web, some in other ways, the question is why does it bother you apparently that mormonISM is being exposed on FR?
If the discussion of mormonism disturbs you, as it appears to do, why not stay off the religion forum, so you are not so aggravated.

If the people dunked are dead, they do not care about it. And because it is not you, what do you care and what business is it of yours?

A Are you prophesying that the Mormons won't dead-dunk Elz?

B This is really the "no harm, no foul" position we've heard before on FR -- tho disguised under the "why do you care?" question...as if truth and falsehood is some "corner" posture of interest to adherents and potential adherents.

ONE

Baptizing the dead hurts the living because over-focusing on the dead distracts what we can do in relating to & in caring for the living!.

We can all agree that Jesus talked much about serving the living -- the poor, the widow, the orphan, the lost sheep, right?

So what would happen in the world if all religions obsessed with the dead as much as Mormons do? Obviously, we're not going to "end poverty in our lifetime" (Jesus said, "the poor will always be with you")...but since countless LDS leaders have called the Mormon people self-saviors and saviors of the dead, it's not only a distraction from the poor but delusional.

And that leads to...

CONSIDERATION # TWO

We already have a "Savior of the world" -- we don't need millions more trying to bump Jesus out of that limelight:
* And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be THE Savior of the world. (1 John 4:14)
* They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is THE Savior of the world." (John 4:42)

Last time I looked in the Bible, Christians were supposed to object to idolatry in their culture. And if you don't think that Mormons make baptizers of the dead "saviors" who rival Jesus Christ, you haven't read their leaders' comments on baptism of the dead. For those citations, see: Are Mormon people LITERAL saviors of dead Jews, others? (The OTHER World Series: Vanity)

If you're a Christian or Jew and you conclude "this doesn't harm anyone," you're catering to idolatry -- substitute "saviors" pretending to act in his name.

THREE

Genealogy for "roots-searching" is fine, but when "genealogy as ultra time consuming religious obsession" takes over, wouldn't you say it might be good to consider what the apostle Paul has to say about this?

...stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths AND ENDLESS GENEALOGIES. THESE PROMOTE CONTROVERSIES RATHER THAN GOD'S WORK—which is by faith." (1 Timothy 1:3-4)

But AVOID FOOLISH CONTROVERSIES AND GENEALOGIES...because these are unprofitable and useless. (Titus 3:9)

(Paul says it's useless, provokes controversy, and is not faith-promoting. So even the controversy ignited by protagonist Mormons is distracting)

For all you whiners.

Are you whining about perceived whining?

[Always love the self-refuting comments like this...so are we to embrace what you say "Thou shalt not whine"...or what you practice ... whining about perceived whining?]

But I know and work with lots of Mormons. As a rule, they are good citizens, neighbors, family people and they are a moral people.

Utah has very high rates of financial fraud, depression, & suicide...so you can see that your generalizations are exactly that...for every "pro" anecdote you toss out...raw stats counter that in specific areas.

If you told us that your morality was earning you "godhood," then -- no -- idolatry has NEVER been "moral" in the Bible! You would flunk basic Biblical morality...

Give me them for neighbors rather than bigots...

That's why Greyfoxx's post citing how Utah's Supreme Court is 100% Lds, how their legislature on the (R) side is 100% Lds...because utah is so "open-minded" toward non-Mormon reps...and supposedly doesn't consider the "religion" of a candidate...

Tell us, Amihow, if Mormons didn't do things PRIMARILY or ONLY based upon "fellow Mormon" status...why do 95% of supposedly "conservative" Mormons vote for a RINO?
