HOLY CHRISM

Olive oil in which small amounts of balm or balsam have been mixed. It is one of three holy oils and is necessary for the sacrament of confirmation. It is also used in the solemn rite of baptism; consecration of churches and bishops; blessings of major church bells, baptismal water, patens, and chalices. Anointing with chrism signifies the full diffusion of grace.
