FARMINGTON, Utah -- Sen. Orrin Hatch predicted President Obama's campaign team would use Mitt Romney's Mormon faith against him in the general election.
Speaking to a group of GOP delegates at a campaign stop Tuesday, the six-term Republican incumbent warned, "You watch, they're going to throw the Mormon church at him like you can't believe."
Asked to elaborate in an interview later, Hatch fingered campaign adviser David Axelrod and White House aide David Plouffe as the masterminds who would insert the issue into the campaign.
"Let me tell you something. The Obama people have some of the best political consultants in the country and they don't get there because they're always wonderful people. They're very tough. I have respect for them. They're very tough. I've met with Axelrod, he's the best there is in the business. Plouffe, you've got to say he's one of the best. And there is nothing they won't do," Hatch asserted.
Hatch went even as far to say he thought the duo had already played the religion card against the likely GOP nominee, but failed to point to any evidence of it.
On Monday, Romney was confronted by a Ron Paul supporter with a question about whether he agreed with a passage in the Book of Mormon that describes cursing African Americans. Clearly annoyed, Romney answered with a swift "no" and moved on.

"You can find some pretty outlandish statements by some of our early leaders that we've all had to live with from time to time..." Hatch told the gathering of delegates in this town about 20 minutes north of Salt Lake City.

In a Romney vs Obama election, it would probably be a good move to have a third party candidate such as Ron Paul, as the debates between Romney and Obama might establish a “none of the above” revulsion factor among many voters.
I currently don’t see any realistic chance for Santorum or Gingrich to get the GOP nomination, although that would be preferable, so perhaps it is time to examine the Ron Paul option among those not currently committed to him. He can’t be worse than these two choices and could be a good deal better.
Are you really that dumb?
That’s all nice and good but the media doesn’t care about that. They will care about every little speck of dirt they can find on Romney and he’s been wallowing in it.
His "church" wasn't a real one. It was bogus, advocating "Black Liberation Theology", a communist front movement which uses various concocted religions to promote a revolutionary communist ideology. Obama's as red as he ever was, if not more so.
“...you are pushing RINOmney.”
::::::::::::;;
First off, I certainly am not PUSHING ROMNEY!
Who is picking Romney? I believe the Repubs in the primary are picking Romney, SO FAR.
So please don’t use me as your whipping boy. I don’t like Romney. Never will. Find someone else to take your frustration out on. If I had my way, Newt would be the leader on the board....but that has not happened yet.
All the fools that say they will not vote for the opposition candidate to Obama are just giving the election to Obama....regardless of who is the Repub candidate.
End of discussion.
Well, that's what this forum is all about to learn and pass information along. Link any dopey friends or relatives you may have (Obama supporters) to the indisputable evidence often posted here as to who and what Obama really is.
You're mormophobic!

if these idiots want to bring up religion they lose on 2 fronts: Obama’s “muslim faith” and the fact that his “Christian pastor” is a rabid bigot....bring it on, idiots...

"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.
The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."

After the election....
A Landslide Mandate For Change
A breakthrough election
Congratulations on an extraordinary history making election!
We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-peoples movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all peoples movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and peoples unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

July 1, 2009...
Change is Here, Change is Coming
Sam Webb, National Chair, Communist Party, USA:
Let me begin with a simple observation: If the last 30 years were an era of reaction, then the coming decade could turn into an era of reform, even radical reform. Six months into the Obama presidency, I would say without hesitation that the landscape, atmosphere, conversation, and agenda have strikingly changed compared to the previous eight years.
In this legislative session, we can envision winning a Medicare-like public option and then going further in the years ahead.
We can visualize passing tough regulatory reforms on the financial industry, which brought the economy to ruin.
We can imagine the troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan while U.S. representatives participate in a regional process that brings peace and stability to the entire region.
In the current political climate, the expansion of union rights becomes a real possibility.
Much the same can be said about winning a second stimulus bill, and we sure need one, given the still-rising rate, and likely long term persistence, of unemployment.
Isnt it possible in the Obama era to create millions of green jobs in manufacturing and other sectors of the economy in tandem with an attack on global warming?
Cant we envision taking new strides in the long journey for racial and gender equality in this new era, marked at its beginning by the election of the first African American to the presidency?
And isnt the overhaul of the criminal justice and prison system a system steeped in racism no longer pie-in-the sky, but something that can be done in the foreseeable future?
All these things are within reach now!

Actually he was on O’Reilly the other week and said it was time to unite behind Romney.

Obama is not a Muslim, or a (legit) Christian. He's a communist, as is "rev" Wright and damn near everyone else in his circle.
Romney does indeed belong to a micromanaging, money sucking, guilt loading, history revising, question avoiding, doctrine concealing, self-glorifying, fetish underwear wearing, white supremacist creepy cult.
But if Obama’s religious connections don’t get the same scrutiny, it’s not pertinent.
But if Obamas "religious" connections dont get the same scrutiny, its not pertinent.
Barack wouldnt dare go there. Insulting a man’s religion is so low he’d lose voters in an instant. In fact, that is why The One is all Jesus in the Garden today.
First of all, just why is it that the mormon church and its members believe that it is perfectly fine for 52,000+ mormon missionaries to go out into the world and denigrate ALL non-mormon beliefs by claiming that theirs is the "one TRUE church" and the only way to salvation but anyone that questions mormon claims to this is a "bigot" or "hater"?
I'd love to hear Hatch's answer to THAT question.
Get ready for mormon whining on a national and international scale comparable to the whining we have seen on FR. It's very unlikely that voters will be impressed by the crybaby rhetoric!
I'll say again, it's the height of stupidity to have a republican nominee whose religion has a proven racist past in a contest with a black man!
