The Republican presidential primaries this year have turned into a religious census. There is little precedent in modern politics for the extent to which a states choice for a nominee has coincided so closely with how many of its ballots were cast by white evangelical voters.
Where evangelicals cast a minority of the ballots, Mitt Romney has won. Where evangelical voters predominated, Romney has lost, in most cases to Rick Santorum.
Romneys victory Tuesday in Illinois fit snugly within this pattern. The result pointed to a continuing problem for Santorum: He has yet to break through in places where evangelicals were not the principal force.
While the exit polls did not question voters directly about their attitudes toward the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is indirect evidence that Romneys faith may be holding down his vote among non-Mormons for whom a candidates religion matters.
But its also true that Romneys Mormonism has had a positive electoral side. Solidarity among Mormon voters, eager to break a historical barrier, helped Romney win Arizona, Nevada and Idaho. Romney won 96 percent among self-identified Mormons in Arizona and 88 percent in Nevada...
But outside of Mormon strongholds, voters most concerned about a candidates religious views are rejecting Romney. In 10 states that had voted before Illinois, exit pollsters asked voters how important it was for a candidate to share their religious beliefs.
On average, Romney received only 23 percent from voters who said a candidates religious views mattered a great deal to them. If one excludes Virginia (where Romney faced only Paul) and Arizona (with its substantial Mormon population), Romneys average among these voters drops to 17 percent. By contrast, Santorum averaged 46 percent among voters who said a candidates religious views mattered a great deal.

My opinion is that both parties are corrupt and regardless of who controls Congress nothing will change. I offer the 2010 election as an example, what happened to those Tea Party folks we sent up there? Nothing happened, they all caved. So if your thinking having the “spineless” Republicans in charge will really change anything I just disagree.
agreed.
Real life consists of more than sitting safely behind your computer screen condemning others.
You summed up the anti-Mormon threads nicely there. Much appreciated.
Like the barry crowd who voted for him because of ‘x’ and NOTHING about him and his accomplishments FOR America. This is the same s**t different year - it worked before, they are hoping it will work again.
When I want evil to rule this country, I’ll vote for mitt - until then - he’s under my foot and kicked to the curb like any garbage.
Me, also!! Well, actually, a second party because the GOP E and the 'rats are ONE party in ideology, disguised as two for votes.
A non-believer’s advice to another non-believer.
So Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh are idiots? If you claim to be conservative and think they are idiots, then you might be the one who’s idiotic. We have to get rid of Obama! End of discussion!!
Oh, heck no, it is not the end.
They have said they are casting an anti-BHO vote.
The end happens at the convention.
Not only is Romney a Mormon, the man is a CULT LEADER. When he was living in MA he was the highest ranking Mormon in the state, holding a rank in the cult equal to that of a Cardinal in the RC church. It is impossible for me or other genuine evangelicals I know to vote for a man who believes with all his heart that he is going to become the "god' of his own planet on par with the Lord Jesus Christ and that his wife is going to perpetually pump out "spirit children" like the queen alien in the movie Aliens and that the sole purpose of these so-called "spirit children" will be to populate god Romney's planet in order to WORSHIP and SERVE "god mit" for all of eternity! This is what this clown and his wife believes and this belief totally colors what he thinks of himself, others and how he lives his life! To place Romney in a position of authority over the entire United States would be unconscionable and before Almighty God, my family and I can not and will not vote for him, under any circumstances.
On top of all the above Romney is a RINO and totally untrustworthy. You cannot trust ANY position he says he supports or stands on because he will change his position in a heartbeat if it suits his purpose and benefits him. This was how he governed in MA when he was in charge.
Yeah...I can see it now...
A local candidate is selling himself door to door...you answer, 'conservative'buckeye...you invite him in to get to know him...
Thru an informal grilling process you finally extract these tidbits...that...
(a) He's earned a fair amount of $ from the porn industry;
(b) He's forced everybody in your community into govt-run healthcare;
(c) He says he's "pro-life" -- but that healthcare provides $50 abortions & has a Planned Parenthood employee as a permanent healthcare member...plus while running his last "pro-life" campaign he told a member of the local media that it's "OK" for parents to give up their offspring to "research"...
(d) He was a member of an openly racist org thru age 31 -- an org that still keeps racist teachings in its constitution but says policy-wise, they've changed.
(e) And, oh, btw, he'll be a grown-up god some day...but, hey, no worry about "idolatry" if you endorse him.
ALL: 'Conservative'buckeye's conclusion: "Well, you're a bit disappointing. You're not much of a candidate, let alone a candidate with an (R) attached, but I'll endorse you...even if you are to the left of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson!"
[To flesh out (a) & (c) above...(c) -- Romney told Katie Couric in Dec '07 'twas "OK" for parents to give their offspring to "research"...re: (a) Romney's been a board member for Marriott, which since at least 1989 has been selling porn inside its hotel rooms...something even they realize is problematic because they've announced they'll be stopping that practice...tell us the difference between a porn theater in bed with the porn industry & Marriott again? Aren't they all "porn theaters" & porn industry distributors?]
Hey, 'conservative'buckeye, with "fickle" "discerning" "conservative" voters like you, the GOP's in "great shape" long-term! /sarc
*****
Oh, and btw, there are many "joe the republicans" among us. Who is "Joe the Republican?" ...perhaps, some of you FREEPERS can see "Satan" appearing to "Joe the Republican" here:
'What good would it do to forfeit your convictions & not gain your political world?' [Vanity]
Let us know if you see yourselves in that character!
Sadly, some Evangelicals don’t know Mormonism well enough to see the evil in it. They believe the PR lies the LDS church puts forth.
Well, he ain’t gonna sway me and I’m working to show others not to fall for his lies either.
Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics are all Christans, Mormons are not.
Would you vote for a Satanist? A Muslim? Mormons are in the same camp and closer to both of those than any form of Christianity.
I suspect that I have opposed the teachings of Mormonism far more than you have ever dreamed of, and will continue to do so. Real life consists of more than sitting safely behind your computer screen condemning others.

I seriously doubt that since both Colo and I have been in ministry to Mormons and other cults for a long time (almost 2 decades for me). Before that I was a Mormon for many years and am grateful God saved me and saved me from that demonic cult (and it is demonic).
It goes far beyond the computer as well.
My Christian faith and conservative principles will not allow me to ever vote for a Mormon.
We have to get rid of Obama! End of discussion!!

And replace him with another, paler Obama?! No thanks.
I’m praying for a brokered convention, it is our last hope. If Romney gets in, within 6 months all of these “ABO” group are going to be crying in their coffee going “what did we do?! Romney is Obama II”
(Said as you sit safely behind your computer screen condemning me...interesting self-refutation there!)
