Not really. There’s wasn’t much to learn there.
Why would anyone ask ANYONE else to intercede for them. Hmmm.
You can say what you will, but you aren’t born of the spirit by taking communion, baptism, ect.. those (should be) outward signs of a new heart.
Secondly the two statements of Paul and Jesus do not contradict. You are “eating of His body and drinking of His blood”, by repenting and recieving His sacrifice.
Thirdly, logically if you diminish Ephesians 2:8-9, and other verses written by Paul, other disciples, prophets (in the OT, ect) then since Paul was acting through the Holy Spirit, who Jesus sent. Don’t you think God would be consistent?
There is a lot to learn if you open your mind and your heart.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Luke 1:28
Blessed art thou among women. Luke 1:42
"A Hail Mary is not a recitation of Scripture."
Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus - Luke 1:42
Holy Mary, Mother of God - Luke 1:43
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. This last line was added by St. Peter Canisius to comport with Jesus closing in the Lords prayer to pray to be delivered from
My learning is fine.
It is good that we both appparently agree that christians can die in a corporal sense.
Tell me, what advantage is there in praying to a saint when God has given me direct access to Himself? Peter said we should cast our cares on the Lord not mentioning the possiblity of some lesser intermediary.
Sin in and of itself is mortal and there is no one pure enough for heaven. It is only by faith in the shed blood of Christ that we have any hope of heaven. Other than the simple acceptance of the sacrifice of Christ, there is absolutely nothing we can do to make ourselves pure enough for heaven. There is no biblical support for any kind of pergatory. Either your name is written in the Book of Life or it isn't. There are no 'do overs', not even little ones.
Jesus is literally that bread of life, that bread isn’t the reminder the sacraments.
Which is why we Catholics literally gnaw on it.
excuse me but the article starts out, “Like You”. I thought he was talking to me personally. My mistake. Sorry
Really? Which Apostle was Luke?
I would contrast Catholicism with the churches of men that have ever sprung up from the fevered imaginings of those men who believe that they know better than Christ and the Holy Spirit.
“A Hail Mary is not a recitation of Scripture.”
Actually, where I was going with that was that it is a type of football play. ;-)
But to the scriptural part, I consider it almost satanic in it’s effect. Satan loves to twist God’s words. He did it with Eve and he did it with Jesus (40 days in the wilderness). And the Hail Mary does that with the addition of “pray for us sinners...”.
The reason is that without that part, one is merely quoting scripture - something an angel said to Mary. Adding that part completely changes the meaning. It is as if the whole thing is being said TO Mary, rather than a mere quoting of scripture. It is also in the category of “disinformation”. That is, something true is coupled with something fabricated, giving credibility to the fabricated part.
Regarding the scripture part: The actual scripture is here:
Luke 1:28
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
That scripture is saying, and I paraphrase: Hey, you have been chosen by God to be blessed. That is special and makes you extremely fortunate.
Regarding Luke 1:42. 43
“And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
Who would not be blessed to be the woman whom God chose to bear the Natural part of Jesus? She was not chosen because she was blessed. She was blessed because she was chosen.
Regarding 1:43. What you quoted is not what it says. I see nothing that can be translated to ascribe holiness to Mary.
Or why the writings of all Apostles were not included in the Canon. We do know that 11 of the 12 Apostles plus Matthias contributed to the Apostles Creed:
"Peter.1. I believe in God the Father Almighty;
"John.2. Maker of heaven and earth;
"James.3. And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
"Andrew.4. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary;
"Philip.5. Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried;
"Thomas.6. He descended into hell, the third day he rose again from the dead;
"Bartholomew.7. He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
"Matthew.8. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead;
"James, the son of Alpheus.9. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Catholic Church;
"Simon Zelotes.10. The communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;
"Jude the brother of James.11. The resurrection of the body;
"Matthias.12. Life everlasting. Amen."
Whats the reference for that?
Unless you eat my Body and drink my Blood, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Shortly after the Lord’s supper, but before he was arrested, Jesus said:
25 Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father.
John 16:25
Jesus had been speaking figuratively.
Are you saying that the Archangel Gabriel spoke King James English to a 14 year old Hebrew girl in 1st century Nazareth or do you allow for some flexibility in the actual words used as recited in the Ave Maria (Hail Mary)?
I don't want to get into an argument over the Protestant Sola Scriptura approach to the Revealed Word or in any way compromise my Catholic belief in the Sacred Tradition from which the Scripture was produced. I simply want to accurately state Catholic teaching. Once we have agreement on what the Church teaches we can have a discussion over the relative merits of it, but Catholics cannot compelled to defend error.
And what were the requirements?
If you read the requirements for the replacement ... isn't it obvious that no one today meets those?
How did you determine that of Jesus' entire ministry "these things" was only referring to the Epiousios?
