An atheist organization says it will unveil a Hebrew-language billboard calling God a “myth” near a Brooklyn hassidic enclave, and a similar billboard in Arabic in heavily Muslim Paterson, NJ.
The group American Atheists says it will unveil a billboard Monday in hassidic-dominated South Williamsburg. The billboard writes out the name of God in Hebrew, and then features in English and Hebrew translation the phrase “You know it’s a myth… and you have a choice.”
“If there are atheists in those communities, we are reaching out to them,” Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists, told CNN last week. “We are letting them know that we see them, we acknowledge them and they don't have to live that way if they don’t want to.”
Silverman said the billboards will be up for a month and will cost his group less than $15,000.
“People are going to be upset,” he said. “That is not our concern.”
CNN noted that the use of the name of God in Hebrew, which Jews traditionally avoid writing out except in sacred texts, may be considered particularly offensive by area Jews.
The Muslims will take care of this.
I wish I had so much money that I could spend $15,000 to give Moslems and Orthodox Jews the finger for a month and consider it a trivial expense.

I’ll be impressed if they keep the adverts going against the muzzies after the first of their atheist group gets cut ear to ear in response.

They could have a pot-luck dinner and a Bingo game with cash prizes. That would be fun. Do atheists like to have fun?

I kind of pictured dishes with nothing in them and sitting quietly in awkward silence.
They do not claim that Churches do not exist, only that God does not.
And the have the right to say so, just as I have the right to say they are quite wrong.
I am originally from the area close to South Paterson.
Now, it is a Muslim enclave, and you practically need to bring a passport to go through it.
Let’s put it this way—the only people cheerring on 9/11/01 were not in the Middle East.
I see this as a positive trend. Let the atheists and the muslims battle out, and those of us caring for our souls can stay out of the crossfire, maybe.
