if Mitt Romney truly is the presumptive GOP nominee, well then we must familiarize ourselves with the most frequently criticized elements of Mormonism.
SNIP
according to NY state court records
legal bills from separate charges filed against Joseph Smith show, was arrested three times in the county between 1826 and 1830 for...Smiths involvement in glass looking, or searching for treasure, and being a disorderly person.

obedient Mormons can evolve into gods as McKeever describes...
SNIP
Joseph Smith did not have a high view of Blacks, stating Had I anything to do with the negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species..."...Brigham...Young also claimed,
This people...commonly called negroes are the children of old Cain. I know they are You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable, sad, low in their habits, wild, and seemingly without the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty...is death on the spot. This will always be so.
LDS apostle Bruce R. McConkie further explains:
the negro are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concern(ed)... (Mormon Doctrine, 527-28; 1966...)

according to geneticist Simon G. Southerton in his Losing a Lost Tribe: Native Americans, DNA, and the Mormon Church
studies of mitochondrial DNA of Native Americans conclusively prove the Mormon claim of descent from Israeli immigrants is unsupported by DNA evidence
LDS lost many adherents as a result

Ya gotta know that Smith published the Book of Mormon in 1830 and he was arrested for these charges when he was in his early 20s.
From the article: describes LDS beliefs on the gods: LDS Prophet Brigham Young taught: How many Gods there are, I do not know " obedient Mormons can evolve into gods as McKeever describes...
Who wants to vote for a future "god?" (Isn't supporting a wannabe-god itself an extension of idolatry?)
Utter and horrid racism! And Romney supported this indirectly with 10% of his income the first 13 years of his adulthood...when the policies based on this racism were still openly practiced?
Ya think that an MSM that made much ado about an overturned rock on Rick Perry family's hunting grounds won't make the 2012 campaign one of a referendum vs. racism if it becomes a Romney vs. Obama match-up?
Mormons have even lost their own geneticists over this...along with grassroots Mormons who actually take the time to study this.
I worry far less about Romney’s Mormonism than I do about Obama’s “religion” what ever it might be. We know he spent 20 years listening to Rev. Wright’s racist, Marxist and anti-American vitriol and clearly has an affinity for Islam that will have him siding with Muslim causes even if they are threats to this country.
The truth claims of mormonism are so easily refuted by science, archeology and history that all adherents are unworthy of public office simply for being so gullible, stupid, deceitful, or incurious.
This is not so for traditional Christianity.
In a post about three weeks ago, FREEPER poster Ansel12 made a rather interesting observation:
Unfortunately, for Romney to win the votes of Christians what will first happen, is that conservative writers, radio hosts, columnists, social conservative leaders, all of our talking heads, thinkers, and millions of rank and file conservatives and Christians will be drawn into the largest collection of, the most diverse collection of, the most creative collection of Mormon apologists, in history. Mormonism will be daily rationalized, ways to smooth over Christian concerns will be thought of and delivered on the air waves, just as Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved already do. Limbaugh and others will fall into a daily routine of countering and defeating Christian protests against Mormonism. New creative thoughts and reasoning will come from National Review, and Fox The right will be sucked into becoming the foot soldiers of mainstreaming and rationalizing Mormonism.

This is the true underlying "agenda" of the Mormon church putting forth a POTUS candidate.
They wanna go "mainstream" once and for all -- and they want Christians to help them come alongside of them to become fellow apologists for this cult!
(Of course, it won't hurt the Mormon church to (a) have a puppet in the White House; and (b) Believe the fulfillment is under way of their long prophesied "White Horse Prophecy," either!)
Me?
I think once Christians embrace a pro-abortion, socialist RomneyCare cultist who thinks he's on his way to being a grown-up god, that passage from Peter in the New Testament kicks in:
"Judgment begins in the household of God." NIV version: For it is time for judgment to begin with Gods household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (1 Peter 4:17)
(Put aside for just a moment judgment of the world...that's an inevitable...Is the church of Jesus Christ ready for the beginning of a divine judgment against them for abandoning the least of these (preborns) and aiding and abetting an idolater come into power?)
That’s the fun thing about “new” religions like Mormonism and let’s say Scientology. They are so easily and demonstrably shown to be nonsense created by attention seeking liars that, at least for me, anytime a sentient adult professes faith in such garbage, I know immediately they are soft-headed.
(Yeah I know...plenty of FREEPERS would vote for a reincarnated Hitler if he was running vs. the ultimate socialist...the Anti-Christ with a (D) next to his name...)
So much for conservative conviction...
...or even having a conscience...
...voting for somebody solidly more liberal than the Democrats ran in the 1960s!
Well many Mormons -- including Mitt Romney are intelligent and highly so...but so are many atheists.
Intelligence does NOT equal spiritual discernment or wisdom.
Leftist Opposition Research. They’ll be all over these tidbits like ugly on an ape.
Before you dismiss mormonism, it is important to know what it actually is. Romney is who he is because of his mormomnism not in spite of it.
To understand mormonism is to understand what motives Romney, it is his core.
So true. They are CULTS. Cults are pathetic. I can't forget Jim Jones and his Kool-aid murder of hundreds of mostly women and children. Those sad sacks were sold a bill of goods and it cost them their lives.
There's no way to stop the emergence of these cults. Soft-headedness will be with us until the end of days. Too bad we can't save people from themselves.
Our Lord will sort things out. Always does; always will.
Meanwhile, we just shake our heads in amazement.
Mormonism is paragon of “modernism” in comparison to the 7th Century Moon God religion.
To equate mormonism with Jim Jones is about the most ignorant comment I may have ever read. You obviously are parroting all the other lines from the Anti-mormon mob on FR. Think for yourself. Jim Jones was an advide leftist and evangelical preacher- “christian” philosphy in line with the main stream. He built nothing. Mormonism has been around for over 160 years and has produced world renowned scientist, politicians, musicians, along with settling some of the most unfriendly parts of western US- so you and your friends can enjoy great skiing. Oh Snap!
Felt the same way until a friend of the family got very upset about Romney possible winning. She had been a Mormon. Since then I found Tricia Erickson’s CAN MITT ROMNEY SERVE TWO MASTERS?
Her credentials and the first two chapters of the book can be read at Amazon for free. You will sertainly have more to think about if you take the time to read it.
First, Mormonism, Scientology, and many other false religions are demonstrably false based upon many factors, such as archeology, genetics, history, etc. Second, these religions rely on charismatic leaders to persuade followers. Third, followers are brain-washed to some degree so that they will not question the more controversial teachings.
Jim Jones was obviously an extreme example of the dangers of cults. Some cults can lead to total tragedy like Jones. Either way, cults trap followers in spiritual darkness.
Mentioning well known adherents of a cult, like you did for Mormonism, doesn't add credibility to the false religion in any way. Look at Tom Cruise and Scientology. No one says that Scientology must be legitimate if a respected actor like Cruise is a follower. Instead, it's almost universally accepted that Cruise and others like him have been duped. The same can be said for Mormons.
"And they came for the Catholics...and they came for the Jews.. "
Gets old doesn't it? I agree with your comment.
There is a book by Steve Martini [thriller/fiction/faction] The Rule of Nine that talks about the Old Weatherman--
"he had suffered through years of regret for one senseless act of violence in his youth, the bombing of the bank that had accidentally cost a human life. ---[his plot to bomb NYC/Washington]--it was the cover that the Old Weatherman needed not for himself but for the president who knew nothing but who would now have a free hand to fill all nine positions on the SCOTUS. Decapitate the executive branch and the effect would be short term-but only til the next election. This was true of Congress as well. The present corrupt system of money and politics of a Washington aristocracy utterly out of touch with the people they ruled-the fiction of a resprentative republic that now longer existed was far too resilient to bring down in this way, and the Old Weatherman knew this. But there was one part of the government for which this was not true--the Supreme Court because of the life time tenure conferred on members of the high court and the fact that these nine justices held the final word on most if not all of the social and economic controversies confronting the country it was the one controlling pressure point that could alter the long term direction of America-Franklin Roosevelt had realized this during the dark days of the Depression when he contemplated packing the court with additional members all of his own choosing---The court had been divided for years. Most of the controversial decisions depended for their legitimacy on razor-think five-to-four votes with too many of the decisions going the wrong way. In the eyes of the Old Weatherman the national economy was dictated by five members of the Fed none of whom were elected by anyone with political and social policy determined not by the rule of nine buy by a tyranny of one, a single deciding swing vote on the Supreme Court..."Excerpt Pg 361 The Rule of Nine.
And people worry over Romney being a Mormon.
But, Mormons did some good things too. They had nice commercials. That makes up for them believing they can become gods, or God’s equal doesn’t it? (sarc)
"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind.
The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings.
This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the 'servant of servants', and they will be, until that curse is removed."
Brigham Young-President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877- Extract from Journal of Discourses.
Here are two examples from their 'other testament', the Book of Mormon.
2 Nephi 5: 21 'And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.'
Alma 3: 6 'And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.'
August 27, 1954 in an address at Brigham Young University (BYU), Mormon Elder, Mark E Peterson, in speaking to a convention of teachers of religion at the college level, said:
(Rosa Parks would have probably told Petersen under which wheel of the bus he should go sit.)
1967, (then) Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson said, "The Communist program for revolution in America has been in progress for many years and is far advanced. First of all, we must not place the blame upon Negroes. They are merely the unfortunate group that has been selected by professional Communist agitators to be used as the primary source of cannon fodder."
We are told that on June 8, 1978, it was 'revealed' to the then president, Spencer Kimball, that people of color could now gain entry into the priesthood. According to the church, Kimball spent many long hours petitioning God, begging him to give worthy black people the priesthood. God finally relented. |
Sometime before the 'revelation' came to chief 'Prophet' Spencer Kimball in June 1978, General Authority, Bruce R McConkie had said:
"The Blacks are denied the Priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty.
The Negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow there from, but this inequality is not of man's origin, it is the Lord's doings."
(Mormon Doctrine, pp. 526-527).
When Mormon 'Apostle' Mark E Petersen spoke on 'Race Problems- As they affect the Church' at the BYU campus in 1954, the following was also said:
"...if the negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory."
When Mormon 'Prophet' and second President of the Church, Brigham Young, spoke in 1863 the following was also said:
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so."
(Journal of Discourses, Vo. 10, p. 110)
Yeah; Native Americans are althroughout the Book of MORMON; too.
I saw a striking contrast in the progress of the Indian people today ... they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people.... For years they have been growing delightsome, and they are now becoming white and delightsome, as they were promised.... The children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation.
At one meeting a father and mother and their sixteen-year-old daughter were present, the little member girl-sixteen-sitting between the dark father and mother, and it was evident she was several shades lighter than her parentson the same reservation, in the same hogan, subject to the same sun and wind and weather.... These young members of the Church are changing to whiteness and to delightsomeness.
One white elder jokingly said that he and his companion were donating blood regularly to the hospital in the hope that the process might be accelerated.
(Improvement Era, December 1960, pp.922-23). (p. 209)
