Otis Holland, 55, a Las Vegas pastor wanted on charges of having sex with underage girls, was captured on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in Mexico.
Holland disappeared from the Henderson area in June, after an arrest warrant was issued for him by the Henderson Police. The warrant was for 11 counts of sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16, one count of child abuse and conspiracy to commit a crime.
On a recent airing of Fox-TV's America's Most Wanted, the pastor's crimes were broadcast, bringing in a tip from a viewer who saw the program. The information was delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service, which had been working in conjunction with the Henderson Police in the search for Holland.
"He was a con man, and he used the church front for his schemes," said Kevin Abernathy, Henderson Police Department's lead investigator on the case, during the Jan. 20 airing of the show. "In the 19 years that I've been on the job, I would rank this as probably the worst case I've dealt with, as far as a predator identifying and abusing victims."
The Mexican National Police, coordinating with the U.S. Marshals Service, apprehended Holland without incident in Tijuana, Mexico, on Wednesday about 10 p.m., according to Javier Jimenez, assistant chief deputy U.S. Marshal.
Holland was deported from Mexico and custody was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service. He currently is being held in the San Diego Central Jail pending extradition back to Henderson.
In December 2010, the pastor originally was arrested on three counts of sexual assault of a victim under 16. Upon investigation by detectives, however, it was discovered that there were allegations that Holland may have had inappropriate contact with other minors, too.
Holland was arrested in January 2011 on a felony count of lewdness with a minor under 14 years old, which involved allegations from yet another girl.
The current arrest warrant for Holland stems from an investigation involving two additional girls who came forward about a month before Holland fled the area.
Holland acted as pastor of the United Faith Church, which had been holding its services in the lobby of a tax service business on Hacienda Avenue in Las Vegas. The alleged incidents involving Holland are said to have occurred at various locations in Henderson and Las Vegas.
I’m glad that you search planet earth for Christian short comings, otherwise, we might miss some of them.
Oh, no, the leaders who deserve such praised from you are Alex Murphy and RnMomof7 whose posts “ search planet earth for Christian short comings”
What? What the heck are you talking about?
oh, I just said that if you want to thank anyone for ensuring that you keep informed about Christian shortcomings then first and second you must thank the two I mentioned above — they do so much more to ensure that all are informed...
One needn’t look far...
I don’t get it, you search the world for this stuff, and then post it.
It is you that is posting it, I don’t know why you devote yourself to this.
Are Christians evil in your eyes?
Nope, and I don’t devote myself to this — You can ask Alex and RNMom that question instead.
sexuasl assault?
If only Protestant pastors could get married - then they wouldn’t molest children.
Good thing he wasn’t catholic or it might really cause a controversy here.
I wonder if his church and congregation knew about it and covered it up. Perhaps they were looking to transfer him to a new church in Mexico. It would explain his trip there.
The entire community including the police and the press knew about his prior offenses and yet the community allowed him to function as a pastor and have access to children. So it wasn’t just his supervisor who made an errorr, it was the entire congregation, law enforcement, and the press and others who approved.
When a preacher holds services in the lobby of a tax service building.
You might find it advisable to be wary.
atheists cannot appreciate the way the world works...they have no real understanding of the power of good AND evil. Evil can tempt anyone, being Christian does not eliminate evil’s intent to do his work upon them...some are tempted to do evil things. But, consider this Cronos next time you waste your time trying to make Christianity seem bad. Each and every day of your sad life...each day Cronos, there have been millions of Christians helping those in need without monetary reward. Each day Cronos...during your miserable life these Christians have made this world a much better place and helped keep evil at bay. There is no other religion so generous, but that is because Christianity follows Jesus Christs teachings. Those teachings are love, because truly God is LOVE! It is real simple actually, if it is loving, life enriching...it is God’s work...if it is hateful, life endangering...it is Satan’s work. Next time you strive to turn people away from God maybe you will think about that. Just contemplate that as a possibility and ask yourself why you are led to do this kind of nonsense. God Bless!
I find that hard to believe since he was arrested.
You miss the point.
Some at FR truly REVEL in the sins of any Catholic and behave as if such sin is proof of the glory of Protestantism (while pretending the same sins don’t abound among Protestants and Protestant clergy).
Cronos posts these stories so that these Protestant-and-in-denial FReepers might see the folly of their imperious attitude.
Thanks for playing along.
Nope. Read.
This was not his first arrest.
Why? All you need is a bible to preach the Word! A preacher don’t need no fancy trappings, or official church building, or title.
