A protracted dispute in the second and third centuries over the date for celebration of Easter. The Eastern Church terminated Lent and began Easter celebration on the fourteenth day of Nisan regardless of the day of the week on which this date fell. The Jews celebrated Passover then, and the Pasch kept by Christ was also on that day. It was claimed that this practice was received from the Apostles Philip and John. The Western Church always celebrated the Christian Pasch on the Sunday following the fourteenth day of the full moon of the vernal equinox because it was the anniversary of Christ's resurrection. Westerners said that this tradition came from Sts. Peter and Paul. Schism was probably averted by the excommunication threat of Pope Victor I for all who would not follow the Roman custom. St. Irenaeus (130-200) pleaded with the Pope for leniency. Although the Eastern Christians did not comply, the controversy took a new direction when the Church of Antioch accepted the first Sunday after the fourteenth day of Nisan instead of after the vernal equinox. Disagreements continued until the Council of Nicaea (A.D. 325) paved the way for a final settlement by decreeing that Easter must be universally celebrated in the Christian world on the Sunday following the fourteenth day of the paschal moon, whose fourteenth day followed the spring equinox. The Roman Church adopted a cycle of ninety-five years for determining the Easter date, but the Celtic Church still followed a cycle of 532 years and the Sunday for celebration was different. By the ninth century the Celts conceded and the 95-year cycle was followed everywhere.

that’s really not an Easter Controversy - you may want to read titles, and of all the multitude of things horribly wrong with a President Mitt (SHUDDER), you sure had to search long and hard for one that doesn’t exist. Constitutional problem? Get a grip.
That post is not in response to the thread subject. Because the FR Fundraiser is still ongoing, it is posted on each thread in hopes that someone will click on it and contribute to FR, so we can end the fundraiser a little sooner.

Oh shame on me - part of the Fundraiser. Thanks for clarifying that Cicero (you always have been a great communicator). Although honestly, the whole constitutional question is a lame way to try to convince people for donations. If I’m going to spend money on crazy - then it needs be at least fun-crazy....
Pointless sidenote - my gorgeous Latin teacher for two years in high school, Mrs. Ross - she was convinced that the Romans didn't have 'soft c' technology and therefore we always had to pronounce your handle "KICKero." She also figured that their v's sounded like w's. I have no idea how she knew this stuff.

Would your discussion of Easter be allowed under a Theocracy? Would electing a Bishop of one church lean us in this direction? Is there anything legally or in the constitution that allows or doesn’t allow a Bishop to serve as President?
America needs to be discussing now not after the fact. Didn’t attack anyone am just asking questions. Do you know the answers?

I don’t know; I’ll guess Archidemedes (and forgive my butchered spelling). That is a fascinating topic though; I will honestly look it up once you provide the answer. Cool.

Mrs. Ross was right! That’s the pronunciation of Classical Latin, as opposed to Church Latin, which came later.
We know those were the original pronunciations because of historical linguistics, which allows to predict original sounds based on how the sound evolved in modern Romance languages like Italian, Spanish, French, etc. And also we have direct evidence from the time period too. The Greeks, for example, wrote Silouios (Sil-wee-os) for Latin Silvius.
