I remember coloring in the lions on the paper my Catechism teacher had handed out. The lions in the coliseum were approaching a group of huddled Catholics.
My CCD teacher asked us if we too were willing to suffer for our faith the way the martyrs of old did? I remember looking at those cartoon lions and deciding that yes, I very much had the stuff to stare down a cartoon lion. Easy.
But it’s easy to answer in the affirmative when we’re talking about cartoon lions. It’s different when we’re talking real life. Real lions have teeth.
And make no mistake, real life is what we’re talking now. We have a government that mandates what pro-life counselors must say. We have a government now that mandates that Catholic institutions pay for things it considers sinful. We have a government that now says the cost of being an American is to abandon Catholicism.
Bishop Fabian W. Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska in response to the Obama administration’s contraception mandate said, “We cannot and will not comply with this unjust decree. Like the martyrs of old, we must be prepared to accept suffering which could include heavy fines and imprisonment.”
This scares me but it’s true.
Now is the time when decisions must be made by Catholic college presidents and hospital administrators and the heads of all sorts of Catholic institutions. Should I do what the government tells me or what the Church tells me is right? Some whom we have great hope for will choose poorly. Some will stand up unexpectedly and refuse to comply with the government. And they will pay a price for being Catholic.
We’re no longer talking about the slippery slope here. We’ve walked off a cliff. We’re in free fall.

The innovations that Protestants claim were not in the original church:
1) Liturgical worship;
2) Belief that the bread and wine becomes the actual Body and Blood of our Lord;
3) Leadership by bishops as successors of the Apostles (i.e. not Sola Scriptura);
4) Need for post-baptismal Confession with sacramental absolution (i.e. not Sola Fide);
5) Invocation of the Saints.
There is no historical record that there were any protests when they were introduced at an alleged late date, despite the fact that everything else was debated quite openly. No, these Catholic practices were present in the Church from the beginning and accepted as non-controversial. The Protestant rejection of these practices appears only after a millennium and a half of church history. The church of the martyrs was Catholic.
Thank you for the list. I’ll have to do some study.
When you say they were present from the beginning, would you
provide a date to help me in the research?
I have to work now for a while and the study will take some time, so my response will be much later.
>> “Its going to get difficult to live as a Catholic...” <<
.
Not unless you want to both “live as a catholic” and also have eternal life. the two are pretty much mutually exclusive.
worm holes are everywhere. the flesh has no clue. God knows everything. we see through a glass darkly. The Holy Spirit in us reveals the truth. The truth is THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. What we think is real may not be. ET aliens are demons. The rapture may be today!
All our hearts tend to be displayed by our words and actions.
Doesn’t even take much discernment, most of the time, to observe what’s going on within.
The majority of them voted for Obama.....
For a person who holds such teaching as true, it cannot but have consequences for how that person views Catholicism. This is not just a divergence of views on certain points of Christian dogma. It is much more. It is a sincere belief that the seat of evil abides within the Catholic Church. Not only does it mean that there will be little sympathy for Catholic struggles, it means that in any head-to-head confrontation between Catholicism and other perceived evils such as secular humanism, socialism, communism or Islam, the Catholic Church is the one you root for absolutely last or not at all. Hence, few tears are shed for the present plight of ancient Christian communities in the Middle East, for example.
One should therefore neither expect nor request moral nor material support from such quarters in the present HHS confrontation. That would be naive in the extreme. There's a school of thought, which is not insignificant in size, which says that whatever pain Catholicism experiences, it more than deserves.
Awesome!
Some of us have attempted to build bridges off and on for 10+ years between the camps.
There’s a rabid contingent of RC’s who will not remotely tolerate it.
Their choice.
At this point it’s a challenge to speak the truth in love with comparable emotional, intellectual and spiritual intensity to the horrific untruths and Biblical distortions, lies etc. propagandized by the RC’s
and
to do so graciously.
I’m not sure how possible that is. Sometimes, a way seems available. Often not.
The Rabid Clique type RC’s WILL NOT avoid harsh personal assaults.
On top of that, they WILL NOT avoid horrifically blasphemous and UNBiblical outrages that usually come across as also obnoxiously baiting.
Many frequently posting Proddys let a huge percentage of the outrages go by without mention. However, usually there’s some assertions by the RC’s that trigger a kind of Sampson response . . . where we begin to look for the jawbone of a donkey and start swinging . . . or we start overturning the tables in the temple to send the heresies flying.
WHENEVER the RC’s have behaved sensibly, we’ve more than matched them. It’s hard to think of that ever being the case on FR for more than several hours to a few days.
Some of us are capable of turning the other cheek for days to weeks or even longer. And have done so more than a time or two.
It doesn’t change anything.
The venom is always there, lurking—eager to spew at the least excuse.
So, I try and take as balanced approach as I can discern to do.
I turn the other cheek or ignore the outrages and the outrageously harsh personal assaults more often than not.
When the outrageous heretical etc. assertions get to be too intolerable, I try to write with a similar emotional, intellectual and spiritual intensity compared to the stimulus I’m responding to.
I try to use wit, humor, Scripture, logic, accurate history etc. out of a clean heart. I don’t want any RC to suffer for outrageous blasphemy etc. And I particularly don’t want any unwitting onlooker to think that because there’s no Proddy response or only a milque-toasty wimpy Proddy response that therefore, there’s something credible to the RC blasphemies and gross heresies.
We Proddys have to answer for whether we have provided to every man an answer as well as any other Christian does.
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE WAYS OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE WORD OF THE LORD.
Thanks for your kind reply.
Evidently you don’t look at our home pages.
Great points alright.
Folks who reject that Israelites are God’s Chosen and Christians are GRAFTED-IN
to that seed, bloodline, heritage, cohort . . .
are missing huge chunks of Biblical TRUTH.
LOL
Just when you think you've heard it all, another ridiculous accusation like this comes.
Great Lion. Do you remember the poster( hang on the wall picture) of every name that means Jesus. Lion of Judah, wonderful counselor, etc etc... People would have that on the wall. It was beautiful. I had friends back in the day with that poster. It had several dozen names from the bible if I remember.

Mary will bind both religions together during the tribulation. Faith IN The Lord Jesus Christ is all that matters during this age of grace we are in. Once the rapture happens everything will hit the fan. NOW is the time to accept Christ before it is too late.
