Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted asked that this letter be read at all Masses this weekend. This effort to alert the faithful is being conducted nationwide through the coordination of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and addresses a vital issue regarding religious liberty and our fundamental rights as U.S. Catholic citizens.

This is Obama’s most aggressive and outrageous assault on Christianity yet. If this stands, it will only serve to embolden the Left further and hasten the day when Christianity is eventually prosecuted as a crime. Christians of all stripes need to band together with catholics on this one — because eventually all of us will find ourselves on Obama’s chopping block if this radical anti-Christian agenda is not stopped.
Unfortunately, our priest chose to not read it today. :(
He spoke very briefly about it, essentially saying that it involved many difficult issues and that he/we need to analyze the HHS decision and its impact more before acting on it.
A copy of the letter will be in next week’s bulletin.
It was read at morning mass at our Mesa Parish as well.
If he is a priest in the Diocese of Phoenix then he is direct defiance of the bishop.
Also, his refusal to read it is tell-tail. He is probably a liberal Democrat and dissident of the Church. Please tell us his name and the parish.
Not Phoenix but Diocese of Green Bay where, as I understand it, all parish priests were also supposed to read the letter. However, I don’t know how much, if any, leeway our Bishop Ricken gave the local parishes.
I am debating what to do about it.
By the way, the reading of the letter and controversy surrounding all of this was the lead story on our local news. The news story showed our Bishop receiving a standing ovation after reading the letter today.
