Well, if the leader (I refuse to call him “Pope,” which means “Father” - and Jesus said to call no man your father) of catholicism says so, it must be true.

The only way for this to be true is if the Pope has a big gift bag of human spirits, which he personally creates because that is the spiritual gift God has given him.

He also must have the ability to read the hearts of every person who claims to be a believer, so he is accountable for either giving or retaining the human spirit from a new believer in Christ.

He also has the ability to perform this immediately and not through any other intermediary as time is short between when an believer first comes to faith through Christ and when God the Holy Spirit then indwells the new believer.

So in this fashion the Pope now is able to perform the duties He claims are the solitary domain of the RCC denomination and not of any other person. This obviously implies, not even God the Holy Spirit would have this power because God doesn’t contradict Himself,...so either it is God the Holy Spirit or the Pope who has the ability to determine if a human is a sinner or saint, one already condemned to eternal condemnation or one who has salvation.

IMHO, and from that which Scripture provides, it isn;t any man who has that power, but only God Himself. If not the Pope, then the Pope has also sinned against God the Holy Spirit in his declaration.

You forgot this sentence fragment:

While there was nothing doctrinally new in the document,

LOL!

You heard it here first, folks, that RnMomof7 really wants Protestants & Catholics to get along. She was working so hard at it. If only Pope Benedict XVI hadn't reiterated something he had already mentioned years ago.

May the Lord have mercy on us all.

Worth reviewing: Charles Hodge's Letter to Pope Pius IX

To Pius the Ninth, Bishop of Rome,

By your encyclical letter dated 1869 you invite Protestants to send delegates to the Council called to meet at Rome during the month of December of the current year. That letter has been brought to the attention of the two General Assemblies of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. Those Assemblies represent about five thousand ministers and a still larger number of Christian congregations.

Believing as we do, that it is the will of Christ that his Church on earth should be united, and recognizing the duty of doing all we consistently can to promote Christian charity and fellowship, we deem it right briefly to present the reasons which forbid our participation in the deliberations of the approaching Council.

It is not because we have renounced any article of the catholic faith.....

Worth reading the whole thing.

"Out" of what, exactly? For a Catholic Pope to observe that Protestant bodies are not "true churches" or "churches properly so-called" is equivalent to noting that they don't have Apostolic succession (and in most cases, don't believe that it exists anyway).

So you're "out of" the Catholic church and "in to" an organization that rejects Apostolic succession as both Catholics and Eastern Orthodox understand it. But you already knew that, which means that the Pope doesn't consider you anymore "out" than you already consider yourself. So what's your point?

Incidentally, doesn't the PCA consider the Pope pretty much completely "out" ... out of Christianity, out of salvation, etc.?
