They read Paul’s letters and sang a few psalms and basically that was that. To come up with books on what to say and what to do and have a lineage of popes and cardinals and arch-bishops and bishops and priests plus all the pomp. Yeah, I’m sure that’s what Yashua had in mind for his flock. Now I know why He referred to us as sheep.

Indeed it was the very pomp (and all the circumstances that went with it) that led Christ to accuse the practitioners of being “whited sepulchres.”

>>So what is so wrong with the external pomp? If you look at Jewish Temple worship, it was filled with the stuff.

Martin Luther said such things were things adiaphora, or things indifferent. They neither add nor take away. We shouldn’t worship God the way we go to the movie theater or visit the barbershop.

We give God our best just as the ancient Jews did. And our worship copies the worship in the Book of Revelation and in the Jewish Temple.

They read Paul’s letters and sang a few psalms and basically that was that.
>>Catholics still do. It’s called the Liturgy of the Hours. or the Horologion in the Eastern Church.

So why should the Church be legalistic about worshiping the way Christians did during times of persecution?
