Its that time of year again. The media will soon start reviewing the important news stories of the year, Time will soon select its Person of the Year; so we should get busy selecting the Mormon of the Year.
For those who dont remember, T&S selected Mitt Romney as the Mormon of the Year for 2008, Harry Reid for 2009, and Elizabeth Smart for 2010.

Here are my own nominations:

Stephenie Meyer Like or hate her books, she is certainly the face of Mormonism among many people around the world, especially this year, with the success of the Twilight movies in theaters and news articles frequently mentioning her religion. [2,090 results on Google News]

Whoa!!! A Mormon blog named Harry Reid as "Mormon of the Year" in '09 and Mitt Romney as "Mormon of the Year" in '08?
Who says Mormons aren't political liberals?
Who says Mormons don't fully embrace both liberal and RINO causes?
Here's how those Harry Reid articles came down when first announced on FR:
* LDS blog names Harry Reid as Mormon of the Year
* A mormon blog names Reid as Mormon of the Year (3 months ago)
* Reid awarded 2009 Mormon of the Year; students unsure [BYU article]
And, of course, BYU invited Harry Reid in October 2007 ensuring Reid spoke to over 4,000 on campus.
Heres the FReeper story on that Reid Gets Warm Reception at BYU
From the above linked article, written by the Lds church owned Deseret News: At the end of his speech, Reid earned a standing ovation from a small percentage of the crowd and applause from the rest.
Tell us, do BYU students & faculty usually applaud ALL liberals like that?
In case you missed the wave of 2011 Mormon occultic postings...including Vampire stories re: Stephanie Meyer...click on this link:

...and then scroll down to post #3...you can click on a variety of articles that links the occult with Mormonism!
Here's what you intentionally left out.
"For those who dont remember, T&S selected Mitt Romney as the Mormon of the Year for 2008, Harry Reid for 2009, and Elizabeth Smart for 2010. As in the past, the choice does not mean that the person is a good Mormon or even a good person. This designation is solely about the impact the person has had. Note: We have made one major change to the nomination procedure: Nominations must be seconded! We hope this will make sure that nominations are serious, and not in jest as some have been in the past."

If it adds anything to the relevance... I hereby nominate you as anti-Mormon of the year, based on your prolific posting history. I'm only one vote, I'm sure there are others in the running. ;-0
I nominate Jerry Lewis of Mesa, AZ, who defeated Russell Pearce, former Senate President of AZ. Lewis personifies the EVIL that the LDS is committing every day in promoting blanket amnesty for illegal aliens. The Mormon Church is going against its own precepts and that of Christ in advocating the open breaking of laws, to allow illegals free reign for their own profit - at the expense of the safety of American citizens. PEOPLE WILL DIE because of the LDS’ advocacy for amnesty. Mormons should leave the Church if they do not repent this great sin and turn back to the rule of law.
Gee, what is the difference between Mormon of the Year and Moron of the Year?
Answer: Not much!
Ms Duffy?
Elsie, Mormon Dude is my nomination!
You do know that Reid won an award from BYU for being a fine example of what a mormon is - right?
You also know they are both temple mormons - I know you know what that means,,,,,,the highest of the high. One of the 15% that make it.
mmmmmmmm, let me see? mmmmmmmmmmm
“As in the past, the choice does not mean that the person is a good Mormon or even a good person. This designation is solely about the impact the person has had.”
Colofornian, please remember that those in the cult put a high value on worthiness.
In this case, Rip is saying this website allows non-worthy mormons to be nominated.
I believe he has a problem with non-worthy mormons being nominated as mormon of the year.
Amazingly, there are no worthy mormons. Zero. Just like there are no worthy anyones. It is Christ. His worthiness alone.
Excellent post!
Warren Jeffs, because it will drive the “mainstream” Mormons nuts trying to explain the difference betweeen LDS and FLDS, when in fact nobody really cares.
I was going to nominate Resty, but Sandy is a good choice as well.
Seriously, has anyone ever heard of “Baptist of the year”, or Lutheran of the Year or Evangelical of the year? I honestly can’t think of any other church that does this. But then again in mormonism it is all about Glory to self not Glory to God.
And since nominations have to be seconded...I second that nomination.
Glenn Beck
And how about Warren Jeffs? Doesn't he practice the same pure form of Mormonism that Joseph and Brigham proclaimed?
And how about recognizing all those poor people who work tirelessly to make the magic garmies? They never get their fair share of the kudos.
How about Moroni the Angel? Isn’t it about time he gained exaltation?
- - - - - -
Isn’t it about time the Holy Ghost got a body in Mormonism? Poor guy.
ALL: Notice the air of Mormon elitism in Ripliancum's comment.
When BYU's newspaper highlighted this Mormon Times & Seasons award back in 2010 -- Reid awarded 2009 Mormon of the Year; students unsure -- we don't have Mormons going around accusing fellow Mormons of "dragging up" (implied) obscure blog sites. Do we?
Did you do that then Ripliancum? (I don't think so)
Or, perhaps, Rip, you've heard of a certain Deseret News columnist/church-sanctioned blogger Emily W. Jensen. Yes?
Well, what did you think of how in the past 26 months, Emily -- while writing for the Lds church-owned DesNews -- wrote: "Hat-tip Kent Larsen at Times and Seasons"???
See:
* Today in the Bloggernacle: Last-minute conference tools and tips (Lds church owned newspaper Deseret News, April 1, 2011)
* Today in the Bloggernacle: MTC no-touching rule (Lds church owned newspaper, Oct. 13, 2009)
Any accusations, Rip, of Emily "dragging up" the Mormon Times & Seasons to give them "hat tips?" Any implied obscure raising from the Mormon outback there?
No, Rip?
Why not, Rip?
Is it because you're just an out-and-out two-faced double-standard cultural Mormon who treats Gentiles distinctly from your fellow Zion crowd?
Why can't you bring yourself to treat me with the same "fairness" that you would treat Emily...or a BYU newspaper staff writer?
You see, Rip...
...if you were one ounce consistent here...
...if you had lodged these same "let's dust Times & Season's blog under the rug" attempts in any previous communications to either Emily @ the DesNews...or to the BYU newspaper...you might have a point worth considering.
But I don't believe you have. I call you on it.
I call on your apparent two-faced treatment and "encourage" you to start treating Gentiles with the same approach you deal out to fellow Mormons.
And I call you to repent of your perceived inconsistent treatment of Gentiles -- vs. how you approach your fellow Mormons. We all highlighted the same group; yet I'm the only one who receives your umbridge, eh, Rip?
Because until you begin to be fair-handed in your conversations with people, you and thousands of Mormons like you continue to flunk out with gaining absolutely ANY credibility with the world you supposedly are trying to win.
