When did the LDS Church quit practicing polygamy, Saundra? Would you be willing to state a year, plus or minus two years?
I'm not asking for theological purposes. I'm asking historically. You're stating a date 'well before' 1911, but you seem to have a year in mind.
I spent way too much time recently researching the issue of whether the LDS church teaches that exalted Mormons become gods over their own planets, populating them with spirit children born to Mormon women who have reached the Celestial kingdom. Turned out that contrary to what we're being told in the press, the official LDS educational materials for ages four through college, and the LDS celestial marriage manual are currently teaching that. It's even in the current LDS Gospel Doctrine. And in a doctrinal guidance issued by the First President (prophet) and the Quorum of Twelve (the disciples).
But you never responded.
You encourage 'ask a Mormon,' but you hit and run with blanket statements or broad 'facts' and don't answer questions. And you don't respond when people quote and hyperlink current LDS educational materials that dispute facts being presented.
Why?
Worship as you please. Just don't send me to lds.org and then go silent when I pull current LDS educational and doctrinal materials that dispute the current LDS 'party line.'
You realize, of course, just as one tiny fact, that while the LDS for the most part quit performing new polyandrous marriages after the second, 1904, "we really mean it this time," manifesto, the LDS Church did not require polyandrous families to split up. That would have been cruel. I agree with the LDS decision. Men with several wives were able to continue those marriages. There were polygamous families in the LDS - The Corporation of The President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - into the 1960s. The first First President of the Church who wasn't involved in polygamy was in 1945.
I can give you details, but I would really like to hear about this "well more than 100 years" stuff.
Religion is meaningless in the long run. It does nothing for eternity. It doesn't matter how many holidays you celebrate, how much Bible, or how productive and law abiding you are. Those things are good and make for a peaceful and orderly society, but do nothing to gain eternity.
What counts for eternity is having forgiveness through the Jesus of the NT, not the Jesus that's the half-brother of Satan.
The Jesus you believe in matters. The half-brother of Satan Jesus whom the Mormons believe in,(as opposed to the God incarnate, the Father come in the flesh Jesus of the Gospels), can't save anyone. Only the Jesus who is God Incarnate can.
Anyone worships or serves or believes in a counterfeit Jesus is NOT getting to heaven because that's not the Jesus who fulfilled the Law and died for you and is able to save you.
Jesus called the Pharisees *white washed tombs*. They had the outside all clean and shiny and were rotten to the core.
"It was the worst experience of my life, not once did I look into my husband's eyes and made vows to him. Our names were not mentioned (because you don't use your real names), we were married in less than 3 minutes, by someone who we never met before, and in a room full of mostly strangers (other than my mom and sister). While our families and my father waited outside. He was the first to greet me when I came out and it broke my heart to see him there."
That’s just disgusting.
What a sham and fraud of a marriage.
YAWN,ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
(Let me know when you discover some hidden "cache" of Freeper Muslims...then I will...until then, I'll post items of interests to Mormons where Mormons hang out electronically...etc. etc.)
Myself - I wont be amongst the horde to cast a stone in their direction. You people might want to study your own Bible more thoroughly on the topic of judging and condemning your neighbors.
(No, apparently you only want to cast a stone in my direction -- calling me a "troll" for example. So you're "judging" and "condemning" me as a "troll," eh? Tell us. What does your Bible say about that?
Making a habit of declaring someone who believes they are a Christian to not be a True Christian isnt something you want started. First the Mormons, then the Methodists and Catholics - pretty soon whatever version of faith you practice is slandered as not really true Christianity.
First, I suggest you read the "nasty" things Mormon leaders have labeled Christians and Christianity as: If Mormonism is 'anti-Christian,' then how can it be considered 'Christian?'
Next, mainstream Mormons -- including one of their 1990s "prophets" Gordon B. Hinckley -- went on the Larry King Show in 1998 to tell the world that there was NO SUCH THING as "Fundamentalist Mormons."
If Mormons are declaring who is "Mormon" and who isn't, I don't see you rushing to the side the fLDS to defend their right to be called "Mormons."
Why not?
(Just forget they...
...baptize dead people...
...formally celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve as a group ONLY if it falls on a Sunday...
...don't recognize the cross as a symbol of Christianity...
...etc,)
Just more uplifting news...
Am I missing the rest of the story?
Something about more than 4 hours?
JESUS: Hey Smith! Remember that boast you made about doing more than even I had done to hold the 'church' together?
JOSEPH SMITH: Where am I?
JESUS: Don't you remember? A few seconds ago you were in that jail.
JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah; but where am I NOW?
JESUS: Don't you remember? Does bang - bang ring a bell?
JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah - that crummy gun I had was about USELESS!
JESUS: I hope you left instructions on how to hold your church together.
JOSEPH SMITH: Dang! I knew there was SOMETHING I was forgetting!
JESUS: Looks like there's a power struggle going on down there.
JOSEPH SMITH: Yeah; there was always SOMEone who wanted the power that I held - especially over the LADIES - wink wink.
JESUS: No need to worry about that now; remember what my friend Matthew wrote down?
JOSEPH SMITH: This? At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven (Matthew 22:30)
JESUS: That's it.
JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.
JESUS: Nah - it was right.
JOSEPH SMITH: Oh well; it was fun while it lasted. My buds will still get it on with the girls.
JESUS: Uh; I'm sorry; in just a few more years; your followers will cavein to the United States government and abandon the 'Eternal Covenant' that you came up with.
JOSEPH SMITH: ME!? YOU are the one that told me to do that!
JESUS: Sorry; but you must have mistranslated what I told you. What part of Do NOT commit ADULTERY did you not understand?
JOSEPH SMITH: mumble....
JESUS: What did you say?
JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, nothing.
JESUS: Well; it was interesting talking to you; but now I must get back to perparing a place for those who believe in Me.
JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, yeah; the Celestial Kingdom.
JESUS: No...
JOSEPH SMITH: The Telestial one?
JESUS: Nope.
JOSEPH SMITH: SUREly not the TERRESTRIAL one!!
JESUS: Nope. Didn't you read that the mind of man had NOT conceived of it? Paul wrote it down in 1 Corinthians 2:9.
JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.
JESUS: No; it wasn't.
JOSEPH SMITH: You SURE?
JESUS: Yes. Now I must be going: what did you say your name was again?
JOSEPH SMITH: Joseph Smith.
JESUS: Hmmmm. According to my Heavenly FAITHbook, you didn't sign in as one of my friends - sorry, I never knew you.
JOSEPH SMITH: But....
HMMmm...
Just wait until the Toddlers get to big for their Tiaras!
