Why is it that the Mormons I meet are pretty decent people but they follow a set of teachings that is so corny?

If believing that Jesus Christ is my Savior is “corny” I am guilty as charged.

Whited sepulchres. MormonISM requires of them that they earn Salvation, so they learn from childhood to behave as best they can ... until, like Milt Rominy or Harry Reid they see an opportunity to use their outward good behavior as a foil to obtain from their fellow creatures. The secret pride they carry about puts them at emtity with God, but they don’t really believe that so they continue in the lie, with pride corroding their souls the more. They are not forgiven, just goody two shoes outwardly. You see, they are taught that they ‘can’ obtain salvation necause of the Mormon jesus, after all that they can do to earn it. Devilish trap that

Short answer? They are all appear so nice and good because they are trying to make the LDS church look good to non members. One thing I heard CONSTANTLY when I was Mormon was “never do anything that would make ‘the church’ look bad”.

Some are really decent folks (who are decent because they believe they are earning godhood) and some (IME many) just appear that way to outsiders when reality in their private lives are very different. Either way, Mormons are spiritually deceived and lost and part of that is believing the silly and false things that they do.
