Tens of thousands wait for hours in freezing temperatures to kiss belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother
MOSCOW Braving freezing cold temperatures and ice-covered sidewalks, tens of thousands of Russians stood in line Wednesday to see and kiss a newly arrived relic of the Virgin Mary in Russia's largest Orthodox cathedral.
The Virgin Mary's Cincture, a belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother, was brought to Russia last month from Mount Athos, a monastic community in Greece.
Kissing the relic, which is encased in an ornamental box, is believed to help barren women conceive and heal other ailments.
The line of people, mostly women, waiting to enter the golden-domed Christ the Savior Cathedral stretched for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) along the Moscow River despite temperatures that dropped to below minus 5 Celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

*****Just as God reveals it to us.*****
And, pray tell me, how is it that God has revealed it to us?
Does He walk among us as Jesus did with the Apostles and other disciples? Did He drop from the sky the Bible into each persons possession? Did he knock us from our horse as He did with Paul?
Or did He teach His message to men, who then taught it to others and on and on and on, eventually writing down their testimony of Jesus the Christ so that when these men passed on, others would have that testimony and may come to believe?
****Peter is just like us in every way.*****
Well, you are half right here. Peter is like us in that he too was a sinner in need of a Savior.
However, what was revealed to Peter was not by flesh and blood, but by the Father directly. We, you and me and all others who came after the Apostles have learned of Jesus and grace through the testimony of other men.
That is not to say that we have not the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which is different from what happened with Peter.
God, the Father revealed Jesus to Peter, just as God revealed Himself and His Holy Name to Moses when He called Him to lead God’s people out of the bondage of Egypt.
****Christ is identified as the rock is several places in the OT.****
Yes that is certainly true, no argument from me with that.
BUT, Jesus(God) gives Simon a new name which is Peter(ROCK).
WHY? If not for the reason the Church believes. Then, WHY?
That is my question, never answered.
lol! THIS coming from someone who would sell their soul for a cracker and a sip of wine? As soon as Rome comes up with some TRUTH, please let me know. Until then, your idea of “wrong” comes from Rome. I would be better off asking a Magic Eight Ball for answers.
I beg you, get some new graphics. Your Yopios and One Trick Pony are one trick ponies. And have been for a long while.
That’s a good one. Another RCC trying to retrieve the words he just said before he’s forced to eat them.
That’s a good one. Another RCC trying to retrieve the words he just said before he’s forced to eat them.
Those who put their trust in some guy who claims to have the secret knowledge and traditions have certainly turned their eternal future over to someone other than the one true God.
Had he not revealed it to you, you would not have believed.
He doesn’t reveal it to all.
Actually, no. YOU are exactly wrong. I have declared you to be wrong, ex interwebzia and since I am the NetPope, you MUST accept my declaration as fact and truth.
Hossus NetPopius
And a verse with another interpretation at that.
Unless some Catholic would care to dispute that Jesus church is NOT built on the confession of Peter that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
If I may, your Hossusness, FOTFLOL! Now HERE’S a NetPope I can suppport!
Having had most intimate acquaintance with Bullingerism as taught by many for the last forty years, I have no hesitancy in saying that its fruits are evil. It has produced a tremendous crop of heresies throughout the length and breadth of this and other lands, it has divided Christians and wrecked churches and assemblies without number; it has lifted up its votaries in intellectual and spiritual pride to an appalling extent, so that they look with supreme contempt upon Christians who do not accept their peculiar views; and in most instances where it has been long tolerated, it has absolutely throttled Gospel effort at home and sown discord on missionary fields abroad. So true are these things of this system that I have no hesitancy in saying it is an absolutely Satanic perversion of the truth. Instead of rightly dividing the Word, I shall seek to show that these teachers wrongly divide the Word, and that their propaganda is anything but conducive to spirituality and enlightenment in divine
things. \

"Jesus indeed said to Peter: "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" (Mt 16:19). This is another simile Jesus used to show his will to confer on Simon Peter a universal and complete power guaranteed and authenticated by heavenly approval. This does not mean only the power to formulate points of doctrine or general norms of action. According to Jesus, it is the power of "binding and loosing," that is, of doing whatever is necessary for the life and development of the Church. The opposing terms "binding-loosing" serve to show the totality of the power.
It should be immediately added, however, that the aim of this power is to open the entrance to the kingdom, not to close it: "open," that is, to make it possible to enter the kingdom of heaven and not to place obstacles that would be equivalent to "closing" it. This is the proper purpose of the Petrine ministry, rooted in the redemptive sacrifice of Christ who came to save and to be the gate and shepherd of all in the communion of the one fold (cf. Jn 10:7, 11, 16)."
The kingdom of heaven was opened for all when Peter preached the gospel in the book of Acts. It was made known for all mankind that whoever wants to may enter. I see no provision for use of the keys to keep people out and to the pope's credit, neither did he.
So the issue about Peter having the keys to open and close is now moot. The kingdom of heaven is already open and no man can close it to keep people out.
Another long winded response which is not the answer to any of the questions I posed. Typical here of protestants and exactly to what my post referred.
This what I believe.
Before Jesus, God’s Chosen People were under the Law which they could not keep perfectly and therefore, they could not enter into the presence of God, either in this live or the next.
After Jesus, the Perfect Sin Offering, the gates of Heaven were opened, and not to the Jews but to all who believe in Christ.
There is but one Gospel of Jesus which is this, For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, that all who believe in Him may have everlasting life.”
One Lord, one faith, one baptism.
So, do I believe in the “time past”? Yes, obviously Jesus, the Incarnate Word was born thousands of years after creation and after God revealed Himself to the Jews and made them His chosen people.
Do I believe in the “but now”? Yes, obviously with the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, what was once closed to the Jews and the Gentiles is now open.
And, do I believe in the “Ages to Come”? Yes, obviously Jesus said He will return to judge all that live and all the have died and we will rise up to live eternally with Him.
What I do not believe, is that Jesus preached one thing for the Jews and something different for the Gentiles.
Galatians 3:28 KJV
King James Version
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
"But he answered and said, I am NOT sent BUT UNTO the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Matt. 15:24.
Because He preached the same thing to Jew and Gentile.
I am curious as to how you interpret those passages.
Bullinger is given credit for inventing this Protestant heresy.
Great find! I wonder if that Pope is now considered fallible in that opinion. LOL
