Tens of thousands wait for hours in freezing temperatures to kiss belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother
MOSCOW Braving freezing cold temperatures and ice-covered sidewalks, tens of thousands of Russians stood in line Wednesday to see and kiss a newly arrived relic of the Virgin Mary in Russia's largest Orthodox cathedral.
The Virgin Mary's Cincture, a belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother, was brought to Russia last month from Mount Athos, a monastic community in Greece.
Kissing the relic, which is encased in an ornamental box, is believed to help barren women conceive and heal other ailments.
The line of people, mostly women, waiting to enter the golden-domed Christ the Savior Cathedral stretched for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) along the Moscow River despite temperatures that dropped to below minus 5 Celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

"Because it definitely says they SHALL."
SHALL:
a. To be able to.
b. To have to; must.
Alex! I will take- A -What is able to do.
Perfect, Metmom!! LOL! That’s him without his pointy hat!
And I quote a certain mom, "I might get around to answering the question. Not answering it on your time frame is not evading the issue. Sheesh, do Catholics Protestants still always have to assume the worst about someone?"
But that is not the truth. The Pharisees had their own tradition, which became the tradition of rabbinical judaism. And you have yours, which you can trace not back before the Reformation. The iron is that the Reformers rejected the priesthood and became rabbis. A book does not teach itself, and so you create your own Talmud.
'Oh, the pope wears a pointy hat! Lets make that an issue! Lets try to bring that in somehow to a serious discussion!'
Tsch. Childish little prods. All appearance and zero substance.
I can see the headline now.
*FReeper chokes to death on oatmeal*
I was busy today. I am not at the beck and call of any FReeper who has no patience.
Besides, I thought YOU were the one asking the questions. I’m not asking any of Catholics. I was raised Catholic and know enough about what they believe.
you're not listening carefully....we don't worship Mary, we honor her as the mother of God on earth, we, and most other "Christians" have done so for 2,000 years. Where have you been???
I have come to the reasonable conclusion that for some it is to provoke and provide an opportunity for themselves to deride and ridicule anyone who thinks differently than they.
That does it. You’re getting the bill for the new keyboard.
I seriously doubt that you would accept yes or no answers, but most questions can't be answered that way as you should know. To ask ANY person if they have sin in their lives is a non-serious question anyway. Who could honestly say "no"? What my answer tried to do was give you an answer and then support that answer with the Scriptures that support my beliefs. What is sad is that God's word is brushed off as "cut-n-pastes". On a religion forum discussing issues of faith, what better use of them is there?
saved by an angel from drowning...OK, are you the English teacher now? LOL!
Losing it just once could perhaps be considered a *fit of rage*, therefore, a yes answer, which no person on this planet could honestly answer otherwise, would leave you being open to all kinds of speculation and charges of God alone knows what but we can all imagine.
That kind of question is in the league of *Have you stopped beating your wife yet?* Yes or no.
It’s disingenuous at best.
pay real close attention now, I'm not going to go over this again and again....the bible, which you seem to cling to, was interpreted, salvaged, copied (by hand) protected, honored, etc., etc. by the Catholic Church (there was no other) for one thousand five hundred years before anyone doubted Her authority to do so. Then along came Luther, Wesley, Zwingley, Calvin, Knox, Smith, Eddy, and other miscellaneous founders of "denominations" who chose which books should be left in the bible, whether or not (not) to believe in the actual presence of the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, remarriage after divorce, abortion, contraception, openly gay clergy and on and on and on. Yeah, stick by the bible, but feel free to pick and choose which passages you adhere to(don't bother with the thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build My church).....What did Christ know, Luther was so much better prepared to determine what Christianity was......NOT
I am not sure if this is carrying arguments over from other threads. If it is, my apologies.
These are just from recent threads, made to various protestant FReepers.
Were the first Jewish Christians bound by the agreement reached at the Council of Jerusalem?
Why does Jesus say what He says about eating His flesh and drinking His blood?
What Scripture led the Apostles to conclude that Gentiles would not have to be circumcised?
God chose a young girl to bear His son. He could have just raised up a body for Himself, but He did not did He?
Jesus chose 12 Apostles to carry His gospel to the world. He could have just appeared to all the world as He promises to do when He comes again, but He did not did He?
Did metmom add to Scripture when she said that Moses; soul went to heaven and God gave him a new body to return to earth?
Why does Paul spend 15 days with Kephas, making it clear he had been only with Peter and had only seen James briefly?
The real question is why does Jesus change Simons name to rock? Why does Jesus call Simon rock if the rock Jesus meant is that of Himself or of Peters faith?
What will we stand in judgement for when we stand before Jesus?
And, why will we be judged then, if we have already attained eternal life through our faith?
And, what does Jesus mean here?
King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. John 5:29
If we are to be judged one day by God, the day of our death or the day of the Lord, for what will we be judged?
If we have been once and for always saved by our faith in Jesus, why will we face judgement either upon our death or when the Lord returns?
By what authority do you claim to determine the only relevant truth that God wishes us to have?
Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard......encompasses my thoughts on it. We cannot imagine what is in store for us in heaven, how could we determine what saints are capable of while in the presence of God?
Remember that when Jesus died, the dead rose from their graves. Where did they go?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Hack. I guess you could be the obsessive one, too, since I have never read a comment from you that was anything BUT hurtful, hateful and insulting. But why not consider that just as you and others come on these threads to profess your faith, so do we as well? And that "hint" about insults and lies not gaining "converts", that's good advice maybe those in your club should follow it as well.
