They are Christ’s representatives who rule over the flock in his earthly absence, but if they betray Christ through personal unworthiness or heresy we have an obligation to resist them.

How are they His representatives? Does Christ appear and appoint them? How are they determined to be Christ's representatives? What is the process? Do not fallible, fallen men deliberate and elect these "representatives?

Please do tell how Christ verifies these choices to be accurate?

That is Catholic teaching. And that Roman Catholic teaching is flawed almost beyond belief.
