Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

Posted on 11/23/2011 11:11:08 AM PST by marshmallow

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

Catholics fall for the nonsense written after the real Apostles. I’ll stay with the proven infallible word of God.

“They strut their eveil before you” pretty much depicts that photo.

However, note the onlookers facial expressions...one would question why they are at such an event. Good depiction of an audiance also having lost their way.

>> perhaps through written documents since lost.<<

I’m not going to risk my eternal future on “perhaps”.

>> the most likely scenario<<

I sincerely feel sorry for anyone who puts their eternal future in fables supported by “most likely” and “perhaps”.

Your throwing around the C-Word shows that you don’t really have much of an argument other than to hold your interpretation of the Bible up as infallible.

mm, I saw your big, bold FOTFLOL!!! and decided to read the post that was cracking you up. It HAD to be the funniest post ever conceived on FR for it to make you laugh that hard. I read it...and you're right. FOTFLOL!!! Paul writing to the Catholic Church...bwhahahaha!!!!

Paul wrote ABOUT the Catholic Church, not TO the Catholic Church. Starting with this: 2 Cor. warning that there are "many which corrupt the Word of God." He wrote many things about the Catholic Church, but one of my favorite is: well, I can't choose a favorite, They are ALL favorite warnings against false teachers, deceivers, another Jesus, another gospel, another spirit, another doctrine, etc.

Paul writing to the Catholic Church...lol!

St. Ignatius of Antioch Epistle to the Smyrneans AD 105 CHAPTER 8 8:1 But avoid divisions, as being the beginning of evils. Do ye all follow the bishop, as Jesus Christ doth the Father; and follow the presbyters as the apostles; and have respect unto the deacons as unto the commandment of God. Let no one, apart from the bishop, do any of the things that appertain unto the church. Let that eucharist alone be considered valid which is celebrated in the presence of the bishop, or of him to whom he shall have entrusted it. 8:2 Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not lawful either to baptize, or to hold a love-feast without the consent of the bishop; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that also is well pleasing unto God, to the end that whatever is done may be safe and sure.

VIII 1.

You have shown that you don’t believe in the Bible because you don’t know the first thing about Biblical hermeneutics.

Instead you put forward your fallible interpretation of the Bible, which you don’t understand to save your soul.

The individual Protestant

Believers ARE the Orchestra with Christ Jesus the Conductor, who gives each one of us the 'entire music score'.... With that HE selects and points out our individual "solos" as we play our appointed pieces. This then makes the score complete and in accord with the conductors determined sound that He wants heard. We don't have to look to another for our cues when it's time for our part....the conductor Himself is the only one we take our cues from......not the drummer.

Serious problem there as the author puts bishops, prebyters and decons on the same level as God...they are not nor do they represent God. Only Christ was the exact representation of God...he Was God and Is God...and we are told to not only seek Him but hear Him.

Catholics don’t place bishops or the Pope on the same level as God.

They are Christ’s representatives who rule over the flock in his earthly absence, but if they betray Christ through personal unworthiness or heresy we have an obligation to resist them.

That is Catholic teaching.

You are fortunate indeed. He is truly a blessing to the Church forever. I still remember the first time I read his Paschal homily; what it must have been like to hear him:

Let none lament his poverty;
for the universal Kingdom is revealed.
Let none bewail his transgressions;
for the light of forgiveness has risen from the tomb.
Let none fear death;
for death of the Saviour has set us free.

He has destroyed death by undergoing death.
He has despoiled hell by descending into hell.
He vexed it even as it tasted of His flesh.
Isaiah foretold this when he cried:
Hell was filled with bitterness when it met Thee face to face below;
filled with bitterness, for it was brought to nothing;
filled with bitterness, for it was mocked;
filled with bitterness, for it was overthrown;
filled with bitterness, for it was put in chains.
Hell received a body, and encountered God. It received earth, and confronted heaven.
O death, where is your sting?
O hell, where is your victory?

Christ is risen! And you, o death, are annihilated!
Christ is risen! And the evil ones are cast down!
Christ is risen! And the angels rejoice!
Christ is risen! And life is liberated!
Christ is risen! And the tomb is emptied of its dead;
for Christ having risen from the dead,
is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.

To Him be Glory and Power, now and forever, and from all ages to all ages.

Amen!

You theorize that the Apostles made a habit of writing down everything that happened of spiritual significance?

Well yea...that's a no brain-er...sure they did for everything that God wants us to know.

So John was lying when he said the opposite?

I love St. John Chrysosotom’s Paschal homily that we read every year.

The Paschal Sermon of St. John Chrysostom

The Catechetical Sermon of St. John Chrysostom is read during Matins of Pascha.

If any man be devout and love God, let him enjoy this fair and radiant triumphal feast. If any man be a wise servant, let him rejoicing enter into the joy of his Lord. If any have labored long in fasting, let him now receive his recompense. If any have wrought from the first hour, let him today receive his just reward. If any have come at the third hour, let him with thankfulness keep the feast. If any have arrived at the sixth hour, let him have no misgivings; because he shall in nowise be deprived therefor. If any have delayed until the ninth hour, let him draw near, fearing nothing. If any have tarried even until the eleventh hour, let him, also, be not alarmed at his tardiness; for the Lord, who is jealous of his honor, will accept the last even as the first; he gives rest unto him who comes at the eleventh hour, even as unto him who has wrought from the first hour.

And he shows mercy upon the last, and cares for the first; and to the one he gives, and upon the other he bestows gifts. And he both accepts the deeds, and welcomes the intention, and honors the acts and praises the offering. Wherefore, enter you all into the joy of your Lord; and receive your reward, both the first, and likewise the second. You rich and poor together, hold high festival. You sober and you heedless, honor the day. Rejoice today, both you who have fasted and you who have disregarded the fast. The table is full-laden; feast ye all sumptuously. The calf is fatted; let no one go hungry away.

Enjoy ye all the feast of faith: Receive ye all the riches of loving-kindness. let no one bewail his poverty, for the universal kingdom has been revealed. Let no one weep for his iniquities, for pardon has shown forth from the grave. Let no one fear death, for the Savior’s death has set us free. He that was held prisoner of it has annihilated it. By descending into Hell, He made Hell captive. He embittered it when it tasted of His flesh. And Isaiah, foretelling this, did cry: Hell, said he, was embittered, when it encountered Thee in the lower regions. It was embittered, for it was abolished. It was embittered, for it was mocked. It was embittered, for it was slain. It was embittered, for it was overthrown. It was embittered, for it was fettered in chains. It took a body, and met God face to face. It took earth, and encountered Heaven. It took that which was seen, and fell upon the unseen.

O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? Christ is risen, and you are overthrown. Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen. Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen, and life reigns. Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being risen from the dead, is become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages. Amen.

The patristic commentaries on Romans don’t agree with Protestant conclusions.

Are the "patristic commentaries" infallible?

To what authority do they appeal for primacy? Is that authority infallible?

Catholics don’t place bishops or the Pope on the same level as God.

Sure they do. The Catholic church teaches that the pope can be infallible in the matter of faith and morals, and that priests and clergy can remit or retain sins, thereby damning a person to hell for eternity.

They are Christ’s representatives who rule over the flock in his earthly absence, but if they betray Christ through personal unworthiness or heresy we have an obligation to resist them.

Another

FOTFLOL!!!!

Nobody is that stupid to believe that claim.

Just like all those pedophile, child molesting priests that the church hid and moved around to keep from getting caught? The clergy of the Catholic church has had a long and sordid history.

Resist the evil? They cover it and protect it.

That is Catholic teaching.

It is NOT Catholic practice.
