A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.
Arguing with the ignorant is pointless.
That graphic is *almost* perfect. Needs a little mirror on one corner...
I turned to the Church Fathers because they were not tainted by the Protestant-Roman Catholic squabble.
My views on theology are far closer to those of the Eastern Orthodox than St. Thomas Aquinas or the scholastics.
What we get on these boards is more eisegesis than textual exegesis.
When I was a Protestant, I had certain presuppositions when it came to understanding the text that preceded my understanding of the verses.
Most of my theological training has been through reading the Greek fathers and the Eastern Orthodox rather than the scholastics.
I dont, I let scripture speak for God unlike the RCC who is so arrogant as to proclaim that they speak for God over what was written in scripture.
St. Irenaeus of Lyons lived in the 2nd century. The Eastern Orthodox Church shares the same interpretation with the Roman Catholic Church and they have been separated for 1000 years.
Have a listen to a good Orthodox audio commentary on the Book of Revelation. It might be refreshing to hear another perspective that is free from Roman Catholic/Protestant sectarian biases.

NO, I mean they the RCC. How preposterous to think the Apostles were present at her death, believed she was assumed bodily into heaven but never wrote a word of it. Not only that but the RCC also claims no one really knows whether she died and then was bodily assumed or whether she was bodily assumed prior to death. What a discombobulated mish mash of theology.
I’m sorry but you speak for the Bible.
I'm not asking you to explain why there are differences between you two, only that there are differences and some of those are so serious that reunification has not happened for over a thousand years. To insist that because "Protestants" - and I put that word in quotes because for most of you anyone who isn't Catholic falls into that bucket - have differences in "theological approaches" and "interpretations" means none can be correct about anything is overly dramatic.
While there are many groups that call themselves Christian, not everyone that says "Lord, Lord" shall be saved. There certainly are central tenets of the Christian faith that are enumerated in Scripture and, of course, in traditional beliefs that it would not be difficult at all to separate true believers from false ones. One of the major reasons why so many of us here stress the place of the Bible in knowing truth from fallacy is because the Scriptures are infallible and inerrant coming from God himself. Jesus fought Satan's temptations by repeatedly saying, "It is written", I believe that we were told about that exchange for just that very reason.
Most of us gave up the picture book way of communicating in pre school but if you still need it who am I to disallow it.
Wow! You sure know a lot.
Maybe because what was allegedly written by St. John of Damascus could have been nothing more than an opinion piece or outright fiction....
So what. It’s a mystery. Get over it and move on.
Shouldn't your theological training have rather been based on reading the Bible???
Talk about building a house on the sand.
Use the word, the rock. You'll do better.
Catholics rely on a lot of mysteries dont they.
Seems theres a lot of fiction in the foundations of the RCC cult.
16In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Psalm 119:9-11 9How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
