In our Maronite Catholic parish, a paten is used. Guess that makes us “traditional”. Of one thing I am certain, our pastor is very spiritual and insistent on proper respect for the Eucharist.

“...ensure that not even a small particle drop.”

Why is that a problem?

Believe it or not, the altar boys use patens at our parish. People receive either on the tongue or in their hand. All is done with great respect. I like the use of the paten. It serves as a constant reminder that what you receive is Someone SPECIAL. If the priest or the deacon leaves the altar to serve Communion to a disabled person in the pew, the altar boy accompanies him with that paten.

Our church uses the paten. We have a very traditional dioceses, some say the most conservative in the nation

Many elect to receive the host on the tougue, versus by the hands. One church has the rail option, and I like it.
