I'm glad I grew up Catholic. 40 minutes could cover our pastor's entire Mass. I was home less than an hour after I left the house for Mass in the first place.
Our congregation made sure watches were set to 11:40 during football season. He made sure the sermon was wrapped up so everyone could get home for the game.
He said getting the men to service was a decent trade off for that.
If a Roman Catholic priest’s sermon went longer than 10 minutes where I went as a kid, it’d be a record. They were always way too short and fairly light on substance compared to the sermons I listen to today.
