Read the entire Matthew 23, he is talking about behavior and he is saying that these guys were engaged in this behavior and there are condemning themselves. .. testifying against themselves by their own statements.
You’re really splitting hairs....Jesus directly condemned these Pharisees, meaning the ones He was talking to. These verses were used to show you that Jesus did condemn people to Hell on occasion. He wasn’t speaking in generalities about people who may participate in certain types of behavior. He emphatically stated, by His authority, that these pharisees were condemned to Hell.
