Geez, you're parsing this based on imagery to extricate yourself from a difficulty posed by the doctrine of a pre-trib rapture. You really should look at what the origin of parousia is. If you did, you wouldn't be engaged in this silly, "Oh, but he hasn't actually returned to the Earth because he didn't touch down" punt that has been around since at least the early 1970s. The parousia refers to the practice of people going out of town to meet the visiting ruler and accompanying him back into town for his visitation. Obviously then, we and the scriptures are not discussing parousia...

You really need to actually read the scriptures as well as study word origins. It was Paul talking about the parousia of Jesus in I and II Thessalonians.

Also, the catching up of believers to the returning Lord is an event that occurs on the Day of the Lord, aka the Second Coming of Jesus. It is something that takes place, according to Jesus in Matthew, after the period of great tribulation and after the angels are sent out through the earth to root out the sons (aka, the tares) of the evil one ("one shall be taken and one shall be left"--taken where? To judgement and death, according to Jesus in that same chapter) leaving the wheat (the believers, the sons of God) untouched and standing to be gathered to him from around the world afterwards.
