My Faith: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), from Catholic to Muslim
CNN ^ | 9/1/11 | Chris Welch

Posted on 09/02/2011 9:07:47 AM PDT by marshmallow

Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) –Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.

But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.

“When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress,” said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.

“But someone said to me, ‘Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harbor–this might be a news story.’”

Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.

But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.

“I just felt it was ritual and dogma,” Ellison said. “Of course, that’s not the reality of Catholicism, but it’s the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.”

It wasn’t until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, “looking for other things.”

Why does it bother you that I wouldn’t feed the poor with a poster who hates my Church? Why does that offend you? Am I supposed to just smile and say, “Please hit this cheek too? Again,” Because I can assure you that I’m not going to. Is that breaking Christ’s command? Well, I’m not the one who went after me, and started the fight.

So, precious, maybe you never pinged the RM, but all your pals did. Ask Natural Law about that. Multiple numbers of you all push the button on him. Come on, state your innocence now. He’s just a see it, say it kind of guy. Yet I bet the mod has heard dozens of pings about his posts. If those weren’t yours, they belonged to your anti-Catholic group. Are you innocent? Great! Make friends with him. I bet you can’t. Because he has a great nose for a fertilier.

uh-uh -- don't excerpt, I said Paul's words cannot be rated over the words of Christ. Paul's words were inspired by God, Christ's words are directly FROM God.

Note that I very clearly said In proper reading of Paul, his words do not and his meaning definitely does not contradict Christ's. Yet some have used their interpretation of Paul's writings to contradict Christ's words -- as you can see by those who oppose the trinity etc.

“In all truth, I think Catholics can believe whatever they want as long as they give up the claim that they alone are the one true church of Christ and that no one can be saved outside of her.”

See, once we give up the claim that the church alone is the one true church of Christ, then we can believe whatever we want.

Consider also that in the NT, Mary and only Mary is called “Woman”, something John would have known well.

Sorry, that is not correct. Jesus called other women than his mother, "Woman" many times.

Matthew 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Luke 13:12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

John 4:21 21Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

John 20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

Why does it bother you that I hope some people stay away from the Catholic Church? Does the Catholic Church automatically have to put up with whatever hate it dished out to it? Does your church? I don’t think you could handle it, do you?

A businessman poster on this thread stated tht Catholics wouldn’t be comfortable working at his place. What if he narrowed his views slightly so that other protestants wouldn’t? Would that be okay?

Ah, more works of fiction from Iscool -- now what are you? Some of your past posts have claimed to be Catholic, then Baptist, Modalist, believeing Christ was just a spirit, then just a man. The cult of the moon-good changes its tune each time, but its practice of taqqiyah continues.

No one believes a word your cult says -- its been proven to lie continuously.

I'm so happy for both of you. So, "precious" (you said it, not me), carry on with your "I'm not going to play your games", while continuing to post to me about how you're not going to carry on playing my "games."

And remember always, when it comes to stating MY PERSONAL INNOCENCE NOW, I have given you permission to find out for yourself. But I will tell you this: WE ARE SPARTACUS.

Episcopal, IIRC . . . certainly NOT RC.

He started an entire thread about folks accusing FR of being anti RC. He was clearly not identifying as an RC on that thread.

Once again: Why does it bother you that I hope some people stay away from the Catholic Church? Does the Catholic Church automatically have to put up with whatever hate it dished out to it? Does your church? I don’t think you could handle it, do you?

Why does it bother you that I hate someone who clearly hates my Church, ridicules my faith, and mocks my beliefs? Are you afraid you might want to do the same? Do you admire it? Do you secretly want to be like me? What’s the fascination? Why are you so outraged?

If you are going to blaspheme the mother of Christ

Further proof of the idolatrous idolizing of the Vatican cult's Ishtar-Mary Goddess figure.

One doesn't "blaspheme" regular humans, departed or not.

One can only "blaspheme" God.

What unmitigated hideousness. The authentic Mary herself has been reported in a number of Heavenly visitations to be grieved to tears over such idolatrous adorations and worship.

The blasphemy is toward God by including the Ishtar-Mary Goddess figure in so many "hypostatic unions" with God in so many pontifications of the Vatican Ishtar-Mary Goddess cult.

The authentic Mary herself? Really? Where and when?
