To me at least, Romney’s being a Mormon from birth is no issue. If he’d grown up as a Catholic or a Buddhist and then converted to the LDS church at age 40, I wouldn’t be able to vote for him.

Now all he’s got to do is keep RomneyCare and his history of flip-flops a secret and he’s in.

Among...percent who say Mormons hold religious beliefs that are different from their own, Romney trails...Obama by 21 points (49%...28%).

Romney's numbers...46% don't know; 10% think he's Protestant or Catholic.

If Romney gets the nomination, media will become 24/7 dedicated to seeing that everybody knows Romney is Mormon. And they will focus on the really weird stuff to an extent that even Mormons will be turned off.

Let's assume for a moment that Mormonism is built upon lies. The lies Romney believes in; lies told by his leaders, original and present.

Even by Mormon standards, Romney is culpable for those lies. How can I say that with authority?

An early (1828) supposed "revelation" from Joseph Smith that was said to be Mormon "scripture" says thus: "...those who lie because others lie are not exempt from God's justice..." (Mormon Doctrines & Covenants 10:28)

So, sorry. It's not enough to pass off Romney's gullibility to his leaders or church or even family. Those who repeat the lies, fantasies, and myths of others are held accountable by even Mormon standards.

Besides, vulnerability to deception is a character issue; in a lifetime Mormon's case, you really can't easily extract who carries the greater responsibility for having led Romney astray (parents/church leaders/original cult founders/self).

Ultimately, God holds each of us accountable for buying into that which is false.

It will be real exciting when Mittens runs against Barry in the Democrat Primaries. Mittens is the best liberal Democrat in the race.

The 'educational' material was produced for the 2008 election. All the network, educational, and news channels have to do is dust off the tapes and play them. I suppose some Federal grant money will be used to make new high definition versions.

You are correct. If Mittens wins the primary, it'll be bash Mormons 24/7.

This is the type of "hiding your head in the sand" stupidity that got Obama elected. Don't pay attention to facts, just look for something to make you feel good.

How in the $_%&@() could ANYONE not know Romney is a Mormon unless they had been living in a cave?

Good grief.

Ultimately, God holds each of us accountable for buying into that which is false.

There are parts of the Bible itself which are provably false, particularly the notion of the flood at the time of Noah involving any sort of punishment for conduct.

Such little evidence provided for such a big premise. Tell us more.

The simplest example...

Isaiah 30:26 (King James) reads:

ISA 30:26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

Isaiah is speaking of the end of the world in far time and he makes a reference which he assumes everybody in his audience understands and thus does not bother to explain it; the "as the light of seven days" should have been translated "as the light of THE seven days" since it refers to the seven days of intense light which preceeded the flood as described in midrashic texts. Nonetheless if you had zero knowledge of the context as appears to be the case with the authors of the NIB, you would likely think that the passage means something like "as bright, as if you were to somehow cram seven days worth of light into one day" and that is precisely how the thing reads in the NIB, i.e. "as the light of seven full days", which is totally wrong.

Genesis 7:4 and 7:10 refer to the seven days of intense light:

GEN 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.

GEN 7:10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

Midrashic sources say that the Lord turned on the 'primordial lights' of the universe for the week prior to the flood to commemorate the death of Methuselah. What that means is that there was some sort of a stellar blow-up or other cosmic event involved in the flood story and that the flood itself was part of something or other which affected the entire solar system.

There is no reasonable way to think that God would punish the solar system over any sort of sin here, nor is there a way to think that any invisible hand guides the hands of people working on new Bible interpretations. The authors of the KJ had the decency, in cases in which context was unclear, to leave text as they found it assuming that somebody might figure it out 200 or 400 years later.

The best thing to do with copies of the NIB is burn them; if you need an English language Bible, the KJ is the only one worth having.

Hey?!

What are the chances this blogger is actually Mormon?
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/features-the-religion-world/category/mormons/

He sure writes a lot about LDS.

These articles are a win-win for LDS:

** They get their name brand out there.

** They provide cover for Mitt and an explanation by proxy of his religous viepoint.

Just another Epstein note.....

Isaiah 30:26 is not talking about an event in the past but what is still to come. It’s part of a prophecy during the Millenium and after. To make a statement that “parts of the Bible are provably false is ludicrous”.
