You are right... the numbers do not reflect “conversions “ but relocations..just as the number of liberal democrats is increasing.. My guess is that the catholics in the south are no more observant than the ones in the north ..
The flipside of that is that the closing of parishes and the shrinking of dioceses in the North reflects those same relocations.
But there are certainly conversions, as well.

You are right on. Years ago the pubs running for election didn’t bother wasting precious campaign money on TX. Now, with the influx of libs, they can’t ignore the major southern cities. I know. Lived there for 16 years and during the last election I saw lib signs for Obama that stuck out like a sore thumb. Unheard of in the past. I’m a Yankee born and bred and was taken aback!

Not entirely true, Mom. A lot of the parishes in the DFW area see many, many converts each Easter. My parish alone had close to 70. And I hear stories all the time from my fellow Catholics about the large amount of converts each year.
