In response to whether the public should vote for a Mormon for president, one should know what beliefs a candidate had.
Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman have Mormon roots and they have been vague about their beliefs and loyalty to the LDS church.
Mormon theology includes ideas like their priesthood brethren will become the government leaders, or future kings of the world, in a globalized theocracy, and that their male leaders will take over when a second coming of Christ occurs. They believe they are the pre-ordained leaders to rule over a coming theocratic kingdom.
Worthy Mormon males are temple attending, dressing in white with special learned handshakes, altar rituals, Masonic rites and gestures and do secretive activities different from normal society.
They believe they are the future gods of new worlds in a life after this one. They follow prophets with ever-changing doctrine and change their fictional "Book of Mormon" every time it is found to be un-politically correct.
Their women are taught they are good for breeding, to have large families.
A member of this cult is loyal to its church leaders and to whatever their modern prophets tell them is gospel, which changes at their will.
They claim to be Christian, but Mormon polytheism of many gods/goddesses in a hereafter, rituals that must be performed in their temples, garment wearing and works (not grace) that saves a person is different ideology.
It is debatable whether Mormons are Christians, and they have other scriptures special to Mormonism written by their leaders, not just the New Testament, like their Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon.
To learn about them and their practices, beliefs and personal character will help us determine whether they are the future leaders of Americans. Or are they really stuck in their controversial past?
Maybe you could point us to a post I made where I defended “mormonism”. I have said that there are conservative mormons. I’ve not defended their religion. I’ve defended freepers who were mormon; but I’ve not defended their religion. I’ve argued that we shouldn’t ostracise or drive away conservative voters who are Mormon; where I have defended their religion?
The closest I’ve come to “defending” mormons is when I’ve pointed out that the FLDS church is a separate entity from the LDS church, and that each church should be judged on it’s own beliefs. But show me where I’ve defended the mormon belief system.
On the other hand, there’s little call to “defend” Christianity here at FR, as most everybody in the religion threads already practices Christianity, and they do an excellent job in the rare occasions when Christianity itself is attacked. I do defend my particular doctrinal beliefs when I notice they are being discussed, and I’ve done that enough times that you might have noticed it.
I also spent a good amount of time defending Christianity indirectly in threads about creationism, but they weren’t generally in the religion forum.
I don’t know why I’d ever defend Islam. And frankly, especially since as I told you I do see some political issues regarding the Islamic faith and how it is taught and led, I don’t feel any desire, or see any purpose, in calling here for people to be personally more accepting of conservatives who practice the muslim faith. Frankly, while I knew a lot of freepers who spoke conservatively but were mormons, I don’t actually know if there ARE any muslim freepers, much less any that I would think were conservative.
This thread has been quite active; but the only purpose I had in this thread was to question a claim of fact, not opinion: that Reid got a majority of the Mormon vote, something someone else brought up first. When that question became a more general discussion of whether Mormons could be considered conservative allies, I spoke about that as well, because I do believe we have conservative mormon allies in the political arena.
Race ya to the number
:)
I don’t disagree. I haven’t argued against the religious opinions in this thread, I only questioned the statement of fact regarding the Nevada senate election. The issue of “throwing out mormon votes” came up when another poster argued that Angle shouldn’t have distanced herself from comments made by her ex-pastor which attacked voters who were mormons.
Your statement suggests that Angle was correct to NOT attack mormon voters, and that was my argument against the other poster.
Ive pointed out that the FLDS church is a separate entity from the LDS church, and that each church should be judged on its own beliefs.

The beliefs of the LDS and the fLDS are all the same...
Theyre both denominations of Mormonism...
Both worship Joey Smith...
Both have the book of mormon as their religious text
Both groups have D&C 132
Both groups are Mormons...
The LDS is an off shoot of the fLDS
The fLDS are living like Joey Smith told them too
The LDS have a watered down mormon “gospel”
Something we can depend on is you on Mormon threads and Romney threads.
Not so much on Christian threads.
I addressed that post; it was based on a false premise, and I explained why there is no value in defending my faith from random quotes posted by people who disagree with those quotes.
I also don’t run around defending my beliefs against various quotes I can find from Catholic leaders that attack my beliefs. Nor do I get in a snit everytime a Catholic candidate doesn’t bother to address the fact that he believes I am taking a false communion, and practicing a false doctrine.
We have differences, each religion and each denomination thinks they are the right one, and it’s absurd to argue that a politician has to address every written statement of the past leaders of their church that attack other religions.
Have you read what the founder of my former denomination, Lutheran, said about the Catholic beliefs? But I don’t see anybody saying that a Lutheran politician should denounce those statements.
Hey, I'm no convert!!!
You seem to have strayed far from the topic of this religion forum thread at this point, so I’ll bid you adeiu, unless you have a link which would address my purpose in this thread as to whether Reid got a majority of the Mormon vote in 2010.
We already know that the only place we will see you working for a religion is on Mormon threads.
Better stop it or else you'll go
Better stop it or else you'll go
Attack Mormon voters? What are you talking about? Somebody is calling for politicians to attack Mormon voters, I don’t believe you.
I misspoke when I said that 570 described your mission, I meant to say 572.
Post 572 described the situation perfectly, nothing will deter you from your mission as you see it.
I didn’t stray, I’m still on Mormonism and it’s defenders.
I will however point out that your list hardly proves your point. To demonstrate, I would hypothesize that you certainly believe that the Catholics and the Lutherans are two different churches, and that each should be judged on it's own beliefs. If not, then more power to you. The following is written using the premise that the Catholic Church is actually correct in it's doctrine, and the Lutherans have fallen away from the perfect doctrine. I don't believe that, I simply need a perspective:
"The Beliefs of the Catholics and the Lutherans are all the same"
They are both denominations of ChristianityBoth worship Jesus Christ
Both have the Bible as their religious text
Both groups have the Nicene Creed
Both groups are Christians.
The Lutheran church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church
The Catholics are living like God told them to.
The Lutherans have a watered down christian "gospel"
LOL, and you are one of the ones I specifically had in mind when I said there are exceptions. <3
Just remember who won the war!!!
Charles #621: Ive pointed out that the FLDS church is a separate entity from the LDS church
Charles #635: I’m not here to actually discuss the differences and similarities of the LDS and fLDS doctrine;

So which is it ???
That's the problem with living in Iowa. Beer here is like making love in a canoe. No Alberta Premium Rye Whisky either. :(
I'd say somewhere between a googol and a googolplex. :)
