Know Mormons' beliefs before voting for them
WyomingTribuneEagle ^ | July 9, 2011 | Dion Clark

In response to whether the public should vote for a Mormon for president, one should know what beliefs a candidate had.

Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman have Mormon roots and they have been vague about their beliefs and loyalty to the LDS church.

Mormon theology includes ideas like their priesthood brethren will become the government leaders, or future kings of the world, in a globalized theocracy, and that their male leaders will take over when a second coming of Christ occurs. They believe they are the pre-ordained leaders to rule over a coming theocratic kingdom.

Worthy Mormon males are temple attending, dressing in white with special learned handshakes, altar rituals, Masonic rites and gestures and do secretive activities different from normal society.

They believe they are the future gods of new worlds in a life after this one. They follow prophets with ever-changing doctrine and change their fictional "Book of Mormon" every time it is found to be un-politically correct.

Their women are taught they are good for breeding, to have large families.

A member of this cult is loyal to its church leaders and to whatever their modern prophets tell them is gospel, which changes at their will.

They claim to be Christian, but Mormon polytheism of many gods/goddesses in a hereafter, rituals that must be performed in their temples, garment wearing and works (not grace) that saves a person is different ideology.

It is debatable whether Mormons are Christians, and they have other scriptures special to Mormonism written by their leaders, not just the New Testament, like their Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon.

To learn about them and their practices, beliefs and personal character will help us determine whether they are the future leaders of Americans. Or are they really stuck in their controversial past?

Generally, I guess I’d rather have a Mormon who loves, and is committed to preserving, the Constituion than a Christian like Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton.

After the campaigns were over, both of those guys left their lifelong denominations.

I have read the thread, this is the one where you have been defending Mitt Romney for days. Nobody has been able to get you to stop, not even JR himself.

Why don’t you just wait until the primary is over before you pester us about voting for Romney?

I agree...Catholics are Christians, as are Protestants. Not sure on LDS but leaning against despite their claims.

As a "cradle Catholic", you should know that your church is very clear that Mormonism is not a Christian religion.

I agree with Jefferson: "It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God."

Romney's Mormonism ought not be an issue. He's a good man and has some good ideas. He also is a much better choice than Obama, but, of course, most any Republican would be.

No, I am not a Mormon, just a Christian Conservative sick to death of these boring anti-Mormon diatribes.

If you are a Christian, then you must have some sort of feeling for a non-christian, anti-Christian cult, posing as Christian to win conversion of your fellow Christians and all that, that results in.

Surely you feel some smidgen of something?

Because the LDS believe and teach that they are Israel. In their Patriarchal Blessing, it usually lists what tribe of Israel the person belongs to.

If I convert, can I choose my tribe? I pick the tribe of Bronfman because they own most of MCA (which controls RCA and Universal Studios) so I can be entertained, Hees Bancorp (so I can get a cheap mortgage), John Labatt (in case I get thirsty) and Seagram's (in case I get really thirsty).

“Some Catholics. Some nonCatholic Christians defend Mormons as well.”

I’m protestant, and I don’t defend the Mormon cult in any way, but I certainly would defend their right to practice their goofy, blasphemous “religion”, this being America and all.

Including the lost tribes? How would they know which tribe they belong to

- - - - -

Yes, including the lost tribes. The Patriarch gets the tribe name through revelation as he is giving the blessing. Ironically, it is most often the tribe of Ephraim (which is also what my Patriarchal Blessing states) although other tribes have been given.

That is a very cogent point. Some people on either side get their thoughts about the individuals versus the religion kinda muddled up.

Sure. You made a claim and would not substantiate it.

I still accept your apology for lying.

Please tell me you forgot your /sarc tag.

You have to be kidding. Romney is Obama.

Gun Control (yep)
Abortion (yep)
Socialized Medicine (yep)
Gay Marriage (yep and even a stronger stance than Zero has taken officially)
Bigger Government (yep)

Need I go on?

And as a Christian, you should be concerned with your neighbor and what he believes, especially if those believes are going to send him to Hell. It is called the Great Commission.

BTW, these ‘boring anti-Mormon diatribes’ as you call them have led 3 people here on FR (that we know about) out of Mormonism and into Christ. They have also stopped one Freeper from joining Mormonism. So, they have done good things and for that we Praise God.

BTW, see my tagline for why I am on these threads so often.

Huge difference in how the Pope and the LDS prophet are seen. The comparison of Romney to JFK in the matter is a false analogy.

I wouldn’t take the LDS prophet at all (see tagline). Before you consider voting for Obama 2.0 (Romeny), check out this book.

LOL, and no. They pick for you. They actually used to teach that you got a ‘spiritual blood transfusion’ at baptism that changed your blood to Israelite blood. DNA has kinda stopped that theory.
