Unprecedented turmoil in recent months in local and regional Presbyterian circles including five lay leaders in a Grand Forks congregation quitting the church after being charged with violating church rules as well as a top administrator being dismissed suddenly was the main business at a meeting here Monday.
About 50 clergy and ordained lay elders of the Presbytery of the Northern Plains gathered for the one-day stated meeting, one of about three held each year.
Besides the leavings, the conflict also included a gag order put in place by a higher church panel that had been lifted, it was announced Monday, as well as a supportive vote for a lay pastor who had vowed earlier this spring to commit civil disobedience, in ignoring the gag order.

The OPC's time is up -- it's ex-ruling elder is advising all to leave this boat asap
Gag orders?
The Presbyterian Church is it’s own worst enemy. I wonder what Jesus thinks about all of this.
And BTW, you would think that this reporter would bother to find out and report what the firing and resignations were about.
True, and it’s own ruling elders are quitting.
The OPC is a vicious, faith-killing organization that pretends piety, tells other churches how to run themselves, and cannot look in the mirror because of their blinding hypocrisy.
I wonder how many are going to hell because of their anti-Christian leaders?
quite true.
FTA: “Its all part of the Presbytery trying to deal with declining budgets and declining numbers, Biller said.
Is anyone surprised? The OPC posts on FR seem to be typical of the kind of women “elders” that form a small clique that discharges well-liked pastors for no reason. Read the article. It’s quite glaring, the facts that they admit omitting.
The article states the group has dealt with financial and sexual misdeeds, but the sort of transparency they demand from other denominations is nowhere to be found.
Aren’t you amazed by all the OPC defenders who come swarming onto this thread to set everyone straight? To tell the truth and counter the lies?
Oh, wait...
Looks like they've been hoisted on their own petard. Given the self-righteous bunk such folks post here so frequently you'd think they would have noticed they were standing in their own sewage while posting often decades old items to hang their attack threads on. Since they're all self elected to righteousness, it looks like no one was self elected to the righteous task of keeping the OPC septic tank from backing up and drowning them all. I can't wait to hear how none of the people involved were not really real and were just pretend Presbyterians.
Why enter this fray if your local church is sound and your pastor is godly and preaching Christ?
I'm an nobody, but love reading church history. I've attended an OPC, and family members attending others. I have some grasp of the arguments in this article.
No group speaks for all Presbyterians.
We live in an era of poor, sloppy scholarship. It's downgrading our churches and many institutions. The solutions is not to “throw the baby out with the bathwater,” but that as the people of God become aware of the problems, pray that God will bring renewal and revival.
Every problem is an opportunity to pray and see God work.
Thanks for your courteous reply. You actually sound like a reasonable human being, unlike the majority of the OPC we hear from around here.
They're hard at work disguising another one of their favorite comic book stories as something serious to post in hopes of diverting attention.
Let’s not forget Westwardho, who had a reasonable and thoughtful reply.
But I agree with you about others...
You all might want to actually read the article you’re posting to discover a salient fact here:
The article is about the Presbyterian Church, USA — not the OPC.
It might help to make sure you’re castigating the correct thing here when referencing an article; for those who haven’t read the article, it can be misleading.
Just FYI.

What? I was just trying to make sure that there was no confusion; I'm not a member of the OPC, so I'm not trying to defend them. Just trying to make sure there was a differentiation.

Look at you, pinging your posse. My, my.
My Posse?
Really? Making this about me?
Hoss
Hey “Posse” —
Thought you’d like to see this thread. Remember now — do my bidding!!!!!
Riiiiight.
Hoss
I pointed out your ping, there was no comment about you.
But if someone should be tempted to take a post personally, remember that we are not to be thin-skinned on these open threads, that’s disrupting.
