Mitt Romney having ‘weird Mormon’ problem
Examiner.com ^ | June 16, 2011 | D.K. Jamaal

Mitt Romney’s social awkwardness is legendary – and the media is noticing it to the detriment of his 2012 hopes.

Romney has caught flak before for his lack of casual ease, lack of social polish, and general banality.

But now that the media has taken to writing stories about it, the ‘Romney is a weird, awkward Morman’... threatens to catch and destroy his image, as...from the Washington Post:

In formal settings -- news conferences, or Monday night's debate -- Romney is confident and competent. But in casual moments, such as Tuesday morning's retail politics in New Hampshire, his weirdness comes through -- equal parts "Leave It to Beaver" corniness and social awkwardness.

He greets a man perusing shelves of a hardware store: "Shopping here today?"

He notes the lack of "guy waitresses" at a diner and says of the long skirts worn by the middle-aged wait staff: "Oh, this is the Hooters equivalent."

He talks about the weak economy with the proprietors of a feed shop, then abruptly pivots: "Okay, so what do you do about mosquito control? . . . This has been a mosquito-infested year with all the moisture. They flew away with my dog."

And this doesn't even mention that awkward joke attempt during a photo-op with servers at a New Hampshire restaurant where he feigned being goosed from behind.

Awkward.

i am baffled that the gop establishment has decided to go with romney. He will annoy the gop base almost as much as mccain did, and thus is a sure loser.

Read the article. It seems to say he is socially akward because of clean living. I’m no Romney voter, but if clean living is “akward” then let’s have more akwardness in our politicians.

I think this is the Republican Establishment and their will accomplices in the Lame Stream Media saying that we need a suave and debonair Mormon like John Huntsman.

Bill Clinton did not announce his first winning candidacy until October of the year before the election.

The GOP has until around October of 2011 to attract a strong conservative candidate whose poll numbers are not lower than whale scat at the bottom of the ocean and who can actually defeat Obama. There is still time.

Of course there’s no concern with a weird, awkward Muslim problem.

When will it end?

Romney falsely accuses a waitress.
He blames the Mormons.

Romney hallucinates walking with MLK.
He blames the Mormons.

Romney joins DEATHCARE with Reid and imposes it as RomneyCARE.
He blames the Mormons.

Romney installs gay marriage against the Mass Constitution.
He blames the Mormons.

Romney covers up the BIG DIG.
He blames the Mormons.

Romney backstabs Gov. Palin and her children.
He blames the Mormons.

If this is true, either the Mormon Card is woven into
Mitt Romney's DNA or there is more here than underwear.

My problem with Romney is not that he tells stupid jokes, or that he feels awkward in social situations, my problem with Romney is that he is a stink’n liberal. It is that simple.

Ridiculous.

I’ve known plenty of Mormons who are neither “awkward” nor full of themselves. They may believe some ridiculous theology, but they get along just fine socially.

Romney’s awkwardness has nothing to do with clean living.

The problem with Romney is that he’s out of touch. He’s a multi-millionaire who cannot relate to the rest of us because he’s never lived like we do.

Haven’t we had enough of prima donnas in the White House?

Romney is an idiot leftist in decent people clothing. If the mormon slant is what it takes to shut him down, so be it.

The very most awkward I’ve ever seen him was in a rare clip form the last campaign. He was in a black neighborhood and trying to chat up some black kids. He was shockingly uncomfortable and awkward.

They would rather lose with one of theirs than win with one of ours (making them irrelevant.)

Dude is going to get more awkward as his past actions are examined while he is in the same room.

Skip his religion.

Aside from being a complete liar there is something very phony and odd about Romney. Not sure it has anything to do with being a Mormon. He seems to be play acting all the time. There is something creepy about this guy too. Reminds me of Al Gore a lot.

Read the article. It seems to say he is socially akward because of clean living.

Well, asking a guy perusing shelves @ a hardware store if he's shopping isn't moral or immoral commentary. It comes across as a POTUS candidate trying to win the "Captain Obvious" award for the day.

Oh, and then there was this one: He notes the lack of "guy waitresses" at a diner and says of the long skirts worn by the middle-aged wait staff: "Oh, this is the Hooters equivalent."

Makes it sound like he's either teasingly dissing their wardrobe -- which is fine if you know the people -- or worse, that he's a bit disappointed they don't have the Hooters' wardrobe...less likely, but can be left open to interpretation.

Good point. That maybe it beyond his liberalism why he just grates on me, the AlGore comparison really works.

I totally agree with this idea. His liberalism doesn't bother a lot of RINOs. These people had better be aware of the onslaught of Mormon disclosures (all slanted by the MSM in the worst possible light) which await Mitt, if heaven forbid, he is our nominee. It's baggage which I believe would prevent him from beating even a weakened Obama. We need to get Mitt out of the way so a more conservative candidate can emerge.

i am baffled that the gop establishment has decided to go with romney.

"The GOP Establishment", as far as I can tell, has not decide who it is FOR.

"The GOP Establishment" has decided who it was and is AGAINST and that is two particular candiates that had a have sizeable following among Republican primary voters but ..... this is the crucial "but" ..... have absolutely toxic poll numbers and would guarantee the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama.

Those two candiates would be Donald Trump and Sarah Palin.

For whatever reason, fair or unfair, because of the lamestream media or because of A or B or C or D:

SIXTY FOUR PERCENT OF ALL VOTERS stated that they would DEFINITELY NOT --- REPEAT --- DEFINITELY NOT HAVE VOTED FOR DONALD TRUMP IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. (See graph below)

Donald Trump is out of the race. Good! His nomination as the GOP candidate would have guaranteed the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama.

SIXTY FIVE PERCENT OF ALL VOTERS state that they would DEFINITELY NOT --- REPEAT --- DEFINITELY NOT VOTE FOR SARAH PALIN IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. (See graph below)

Sarah Palin is a nice person that I would love to have as a neighbor or a friend or as an in-law but Sarah Palin, like my loveable 93 year old aunt, would be a disaster as the GOP candidate in the general election. Her nomination also guarantees the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama.

It's that simple.

Instead of worrying about a "GOP Establishment" conspiracy, we need to be worrying about encouraging a strong conservative candidate that can actually beat Obama to enter the race even if that candidate is not as cute as Sarah Palin.

As I have said before, Bill Clinton did not announce his first winning candidacy until October of the year before the election. The GOP has until around October of 2011 to attract a strong conservative candidate whose poll numbers are not lower than whale scat at the bottom of the ocean and who can actually defeat Obama.

Right now, America's choice for President is:

"None of the Above"
