BREAKING: Controversial pro-abortion funding Notre Dame board member steps down
by Kathleen Gilbert
NOTRE DAME, Indiana, June 8, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - After the schools failed attempt at containing the scandal, the newest member of the University of Notre Dames board of trustees has resigned following the revelation that she contributed thousands of dollars to a prominent pro-abortion political group.
Investment magnate Roxanne Martino, an alumna of the school, complained of the negative attention drawn to her contributions.
I dearly love my alma mater and remain fully committed to all aspects of Catholic teaching and to the mission of Notre Dame, she said in a statement, according to the Chicago Tribune. I had looked forward to contributing in this new role, but the current controversy just doesnt allow me to be effective.
The Cardinal Newman Society, a Catholic university watchdog group, broke the story last month that Martino had contributed over $25,000 to Emilys List, a political action committee dedicated solely to electing pro-choice Democratic women to office.
The news gained traction after Wall Street columnist and Notre Dame alumnus William McGurn slammed the choice of Martino in light of University president Fr. John Jenkins claims that the prestigious Catholic institution was unequivocally committed to the sanctity of human life and to its protection from conception to natural death.

Time for her to give her money to pro-life causes or Notre Dame, but not for abortion...
This should not have happened in the first place.
Bad management at Notre Dame, and this trustee was clearly incompetent or not suitable for the job.
I ...remain fully committed to all aspects of Catholic teaching...
NO YOU DON’T.
What is this woman? Stupid?
But, clearly she’s not, she’s a self-deluding liar.
Notre Dame does one thing right.
Hey, you like the concept of killing fetuses, find another “religion”.
I'd certainly hope Notre Dame could make sure in the future to exclude certain classes of mental incompetents from important positions.
. . . but I just can't resist killing babies!
“I’m fully committed to all aspects of Catholic teaching..”
Except in matters pertaining to the catechism of the catholic church.
Amen!
Yet she gave $35,000 to Emily's List.
She is either incredibly dumb or lying...
if she wasn’t lying, she would have stepped forward and said, “look I might have accidently given $35,000 to Emily’s List, but I have given $350,000 to pro-life causes in the past.”
But of course, she has probably never given a nickel to a pro-life cause.....not even by accident!
My #2 son graduated from N.D....they constantly send fund raising letters....I send them all back, in the postage paid envelopes, and explain why I’m doing so....I absolutely cannot stand hypocracy
About 13 years ago my son was planning a possible Navy ROTC effort and was asked by the Navy to plan for three possible schools of which one had to be a public institution. He picked Marquette, Note Dame and the University of Wisconsin. We toured all three including panel discussion seminars put on by the sales forces at Marquette and Notre Dame.
I had to work really hard to avoid influencing my son i.e. I said nothing about my impression of the sales people. It was his choice, not mine.
In the end he put Marquette first on his list, and the Navy sent him to Marquette. After he submitted his list to the Navy I asked why he picked Marquette over Notre Dame. He said the sales force at Notre Dame seemed a bit arrogant to him.
He was right, sort of. That outfit dripped arrogance so much they made me want to up-chuck, and when I visited with them up close and personal after the 'seminar' I felt an overwhelming need for a shower. Those clowns were so disgusting I worried they might be contagious.
Funny thing was, in those days I still thought at least it was a Catholic school. Their leadership has since disabused me of that notion.
Oh, and Marquette turned into a superb choice. I had many good discussions with with a number of the Jesuits. One of them was and is an NRA member. I joked with him that he must be the life of the Jesuit parties.
I always want people to have a good college experience. I sure hope people don't go to ND because of any Catholic affiliation.
P.S. The Jesuits work a bazillion time harder in support of the military than that cabal that runs ND.
University president Fr. John Jenkins claims that the prestigious Catholic institution was unequivocally committed to the sanctity of human life and to its protection from conception to natural death.
A lot of lying in so few words.
