SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) -- Saying "there is hope for America, and we will find it on our knees," Texas Governor Rick Perry has invited other governors to join him in a "solemn gathering of prayer and fasting" in August in Houston, according to the event's website.

Perry, who said recently he is considering a run for the Republican nomination to contest the presidency in 2012 against Barack Obama, has frequently made calls for prayer while governor.

You know, I almost posted this in News/Activism, but the last time I posted a similiar political/religious article , I got flamed.

As a nation, we must come together, and call upon Jesus to guide us..."

That's what I'm talking about, let's do it!

Several other prominent Republican candidates or wantabes are also authentic Christians; I'm happy to see Gov. Perry isn't ashamed of invoking the name of Jesus Christ.

Add me to those happy to see Gov. Perry going to his knees in prayer and fasting. This is where our country’s battle will be most effectively fought! AMEN GOV. PERRY. I join you here in Los Angeles.

Perry isn't ashamed of invoking the name of Jesus Christ.

Or of governing as a socialist.
Or of attempting to circumvent the legislature's authority and trying to force schoolgirls in Texas to have to get unproven (and expensive) venereal disease vaccinations all on his own authority.

You could have shortened your post and given a far more accurate picture of who Perry is by simply saying:

Perry has no shame.

Perry has no shame.

OK, Edd, who's your candidate?

Perry, as everyone else, has flaws and no politician toes the conservative line 100% of the time.

But I would rather have an authentic Christian, with all his/her warts and baggage as a GOP candidate than any of the RINOS or 'rats; no, they have no shame!

I wasn’t excited to vote for him for governor, but come on. Regarding the disease vaccine, the students could still opt-out of the vaccine.

They weren’t forced to get it. Just like sex-ed etc.

It is very early, and in a tumultuous cycle like this a successful candidate may appear very late in the game - thus reducing time to dig up dirt. Perry of course is covered in slime like Mitt and no digging of any sort is needed to torpedo him.

Cain is good,
West if he runs.
I could live with Jan Brewer
Bachman if she explains the garden thing,
Palin, if she dumps McCain (Who I notice is aging rapidly now - so that may be moot soon).

I think there are probably other good people out there

I definitely won't vote for anyone who has ever:

1. Been pro abortion.
2. supported gay marriage, Gay adoption, gay access to other people's children (Romney and the boy scouts)
3. No one who has opposed sealing the border, or been for amnesty for illegals or been opposed to cutting off government benefits for illegals (Perry).
4. No one who has been an Isolationist or who has been actively anti-military (Ron Paul: the Libertarian version of John Murtha).
5. No one who fell for anthropomorphic Global Warming.
6. No one who has had affairs, or cheated on their taxes.
7. No one opposed to home schooling or school choice.
8. No one who won't be open to rolling back or eliminating The FDA, The EPA, The BATFA, The Department of Education, The FCC, and anything New since Bush 41.
9. No one who has ever abused eminent domain, or proposed laws requiring citizens to buy, do, or inspect something. we need less red tape not more (Goodbye Perry on both counts).
Those are pretty basic things, not pie in the sky like combat experience and more than two terms as Governor or some such.

I pretty much see no reason to compromise.

I’d say a little isolationism now and then is a good thing (esp now). We need manufacturing back in the USA. It shouldnt take another WW to get us out of this mess (again).

I think Perry is phony. If he’s such a big Christian why doesn’t he send the bill back to the legislature stopping the TSA from molesting the people in the airports there. He called a special session, but that piece of legislation wasn’t included? Christians don’t be gullible. Discern and judge the fruit, or actions of this man. If Rick Perry is trying to bamboozle Christians, he has no idea what he’s doing. You do not mess around or play games with the name of Jesus. Remember what happened in the book of Acts.

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:15,16.

I didn’t know this about Perry. It gives me chills to think what this could do for the country. On the other hand, it’s like sticking your finger in the eye of the left.

Another Rick Perry hater, huh?

Well, it is your state!

I like Rick Perry, flaws and all; who do you like for a GOP candidate?

It would be much better if Republicans would stick to saying only positive things about candidates and leave the nay saying to the other side.

Yes, I intentionally left out people who matched any criteria from my automatic reject list.

Illiterate I see, as I listed several I could live with.

Are you gonna scream and kick and throw your little temper tantrum every time someone won't vote for one of your little RINOs? How did that work out for the Rudybots and Mittbots last cycle?

Have you got your opus already written?
Are you all prepared to whine about how the Christians and the Socons have had their boot on the neck of the party for too long?

Frankly, I don't care. I've seen it before.

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but I’m not the “Robert Schuller or Joel Osteen” kind of a Christian. If it’s something that can have a detrimental impact on people. I will call it out. You do what you want to do. That’s your choice.

Jesus told us that there would be deception all over the place. There are wolves in sheep’s clothing in the political world. This man is calling for prayer? Why? Why now? What’s his motive? I’m saying judge the fruit. If you get deceived, it’s your own fault and you’ll answer to the Lord for it and pay the price. We won’t be able to blame anyone but ourselves.

We are satisfied with Perry here in TX—pro life credentials. Looks good on camera, a necessity for a presidential candidate. But is very weak in debates. Tea Party candidate Debra Medina would possibly have beaten Perry had she not outed herself as a truther on Glenn Beck’s radio program. He cannot make it as a national candidate.
