>> show me where in the written word it sanctions sola scripture.<<

In the first place, it’s obvious that you don’t even understand the difference between Sola Scriptura and Solo Scriptura. There are many scriptural references to testing anything one hears by what is written. Here are a couple of examples.

I Corinthians 4:6 I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers,[a] that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

You would evidently not agree with that portion of scripture since praying to dead people, the ascension of Mary, and many other teachings of some religions have no basis in scripture.

Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Going back to the original discussion of this thread it’s obvious that Camping didn’t agree with portions of scripture, as it’s evident you don’t given the example above, or he would have also read the written word that “no one knows the hour or the day”. Therein lies the need to “examine the scripture daily to see if these things were so”.

so are you saying Paul didn’t tell the Thessalonians to keep the tradition taught by him?

2 Thessalonians 2:15

“So then, brethern, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter”

sounds like St Paul is equating Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition as both being the Word of God. I think only the Catholic Church keeps these traditions, since she received them from the Apostles.

It would be well for you to understand that Paul and Acts are referring to the OT since the bible as we know it was not officially sanctioned until the 5th cent.

You can be like the communists and write a revised history but most credible sources pretty well agree that while written in the 1st cent the NT was not widely disseminated to the illiterate faithful. Therefore, when Paul and Acts as well as the early church fathers refer to scripture it is the OT.

Camping is the poster child for the Sola crowd and has brought nothing but derision to the christian world who now are convinced that evangelicals are red neck types who are barely literate. The Dick ,Jane Spot types.

I know this might discombobulate your mental equilibrium but it is what it is.

It was a mistake for you to mention SOLO vs Sola . Solo is the evangelical evolution from sola and states that only scripture is ecclesial authority. Each person is their own interpretative authority.

This is the Dr Frankenstein which allowed for the creation of Camping. If the Evangelical had stayed with the reformation and the Sola then it would have been difficult for Camping and other evangelical loonies to ply their trade. But alas it was not to be and so evangelicals are now saddled with the Campings who make them a laughingstock.

It might be wise to have a reform of the reform of the reform which returns to the original reformation. It is the only path to salvage the situation for the evangelical..
