i have listened to Camping many times and he does have a very good understanding that the OT is types and shadows and the NT is the fulfillment of the OT. he does not accept sacred tradition for divine revelation and yes, he does hold to sola scriptura.

It appears that there is an attempt afoot to latch onto the term Sola Scriptura without actually bothering to understand what it means. Those who adhere to it use Scripture as the sole standard of proof of a belief, doctrine or tradition. Those beliefs, doctrines or traditions that fail to meet this solely Scriptural standard are not Biblical and are therefore in error and are not truly Christian.

So, let's return then to Harold Camping. Mr. Camping purported to know, via numerology apparently, that the Rapture was going to occur yesterday. Not only did he purport to know the day, he furthermore went into the hour.

Had Mr. Camping been an adherent of your much-derided Sola Scriptura, however, he would have been humbled and rebuked by the following Biblical passage, from Mark 13:32:

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

So, had Mr. Camping actually "held to" Sola Scriptura as you claim, he never would have made such a fool of himself, again (this isn't the first time he's done this), and he wouldn't have given the mainstream media and the enemies of Christianity such a source of gleeful mockery, going on weeks now.

I note that you join in the mockery yourself. Careful of that which you mock. Harold Camping was and is a fool at a minimum and a false prophet at worst. Neither are held in regard by the Bible. But, neither are mockers and scoffers.

mocking? really, show me where i was mocking him.

as it relates to “sola scriptura”, both Baptists and Lutherans claim to follow it. one does not baptize infants, the other does, yet both claim “sola scriptura”
who is right or do we flip a coin?

BTW - Camping absolutely believes in sola scriptura. He just interprets the Bible differently than you.

this is the confusion that results from sola scriptura. once you reject the Church Jesus established and it’s teaching authority guided by the Holy Spirit, you in effect, make yourself the final authority on doctrine. so everyone reads the Scriptures and comes up with their own theories on what it means and you get 30,000 different “churches”, all claiming sola scriptura and all teaching conflicting doctrines.

the Holy Spirit is not the author of confusion!!

Please relate specifically, and do not bother to quote 2 Tim 3:16, where the bible sanctions sola scriptura. Camping coupled this biblical myth to his self interpretation which spread the flames of Satan to many.

It might be embarrassing to recount the evolution of the reformers interpretation of sola scriptura. The meaning of it has changed over the centuries.

Camping is an disgrace as well as the doctrines of rapture and other solas lending to contrived self interpretations.

It is time for the evangelicals to worship Jesus as their personal savior and cease and desist from worshiping themselves.

Worth repeating.

The distinction that is failed to be acknoledged by so many is that Campings failure in this prediction only discredits him, not Scripture and not sola Scriptura.

Those who use one man's foolishness to discredit the Word as the final source of authority for spiritual matters are being disingenuous and desperately grasping at straws in their almost hysterical efforts to diminish the authority of Scripture.

Proverbs 9:7-8 Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you.

Proverbs 21:24 "Scoffer" is the name of the arrogant, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride.

Proverbs 24:9 The devising of folly is sin,and the scoffer is an abomination to mankind.

Yet Harold Camping is a proponent of Sola Scriptura.

his very stance on this joke of a doomsday prediction has refuted SS practically

Harold has taken the idea of SOLA scriptura to it's logical extreme

This is what says

Harold Campingo: "we emphatically teach that the whole Bible is the Word of God. We believe that, in the original languages in which the Bible was written, every Word was from the mouth of God, and consequently, is never to be altered and must be obeyed. The Bible alone, and in its entirety, is the Word of God.”
Now,this Sola scriptura guy (Camping) takes the idea that everyone's interpretation is correct and SOLA scripture (which is egotistical and not learning as a community) to it's logical conclusion

The proper way is the orthodox way where we read Scripture in the community of The Church, which is how Christians had always believed for 1500+ years and still do in orthodoxy

Sola scriptura practitioners like Camping take the Bible and separate it from its central doctrine, reads it as a book, as individual componenet instead of the whole and then claim that they got it from Biblical authority for their crazy ideas

Scripture is to be read in context as we in orthodoxy keep repeating (because this is what we have learnt from our elders and all of us through the Holy SPirit have learnt this as a community) but the Sola Scriptura folks keep making fools of themselves with these predictions. The next one is for 2012 May, then 2012 december
