It is Sola Scriptura not the bible which is under intense scrutiny and Camping used Sola Scriptura to drive many from the saving graces of Jesus.
This incident with Camping has made Christianity a laughingstock to the secular humanistic crowd and all the believers can do is distance themselves from the rapture and evangelical types to preserve the Faith for ourselves.
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16)
We know that the Bible is the Word of God. The Bible declares itself to be God-breathed, inerrant, and authoritative. We also know that God does not change His mind or contradict Himself. So, while the Bible itself may not explicitly argue for sola scriptura, it most definitely does not allow for traditions that contradict its message. Sola scriptura is not as much of an argument against tradition as it is an argument against unbiblical, extra-biblical and/or anti-biblical doctrines. The only way to know for sure what God expects of us is to stay true to what we know He has revealedthe Bible. We can know, beyond the shadow of any doubt, that Scripture is true, authoritative, and reliable.

I absolutely agree with you there.

Well, since the doctrine of the event of the Rapture is in Scripture, and therefore given to us by God, I believe it and have no intention of "distancing" myself from it. The Rapture will happen, God said it will happen, and a million false prophets can come on the scene and make a mockery of that Scriptural doctrine and those who have absolute faith in God and what He has written will not stop believing it.
As far as distancing oneself from evangelicals, with the way some of them are buying into the end-time deceptions which are flourishing, I may have to agree with you there too.
Camping didnt use Sola Scripture. To think so is absurd on its face. If he was using Sola Scripture he would have included the fact that scripture says no one knows the day or hour, not even Jesus but the Father only.
