I'm sure it will work out much better for the Presbyterians than it did for the Catholics back in the 70's. < /sarcasm>

The Presbyterians may have approved of the ordination of gay people, but God doesn’t. That never stopped them in the past.

At least they’re paving the way for full fellowship with the wayward ELCA. Apostasy loves company.

At least they identified it as PC USA, not PCA.

Have been expecting this for quite a while. It will probably do to them what it did to the Episcopal church.

From within the article:
“I hope that going forward we can stay together and be faithful witnesses to the gospel of Jesus Christ,” he said.

We'll have to see how that works...

Some Presbyterians, not the ones who count. It is too bad that the most conservative portions don’t get to keep the name and make these loons call themselves something else. Presbysexualists? Homoterians?

Freegards

Next step: approving the ordination of those engaged in ongoing adultery? Or perhaps the ordination of non-Christians who can deliver a good sermon?

From the comments it seems this is not the only or main group of Presbyterians? Well, it is now the "dead branch" of Presbyterians.

And people practicing same sex sodomy are not “gay people”, they are mentally ill sex perverts. Gay people are people who are happy and joyful and carefree; the exact opposite of homosexuals.

The Presbyturian Church USA in my town has grown so small their beautiful old church can not be used as they can not afford the electric bill. They meet in a much smaller side building. Of coarse the private University gets alot of out of State lesbians to attend.

We left our old PCUSA church over this issue as we dealt with it at the local church level. We went to another PCUSA church that is much more conservative. It will be interesting to see how they deal with this.

Yes, it will be interesting. Mom’s regional presbytery (Central Florida) has voted this down more than once. I don’t know enough about their church governance to know whether this decision higher up the chain is binding on local churches or regions.

And I don’t know if she’ll leave the denomination if some areas - but not East Lake Pres. - deliberately ordain homosexuals. If she wanted to attend a Lutheran church, she’d have to find one that wasn’t even more homo-philiac than the PC-USA, or a more conservative Presbyterian church. She might decide that, at 73, she can just stick it out.

Yes. It is. They are changing their constitution so every church will have to comply.

Uh-oh again. But I won’t blame Mom if she decides to stay in her current church unless they put a flamer in the pulpit. With Dad’s having Alzheimer’s Disease, changing churches is stress she doesn’t need.

Romans 1:18-32
God’s Anger at Sin

18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them.

20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.

22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.

23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.

25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.

27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.

30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents.

31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.

32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

From the article:

“The change approved on Tuesday does not mean that presbyterys must ordain gay candidates — only that they may. The wording leaves the decision open to local presbyterys, according to church officials.”

************************

So it sounds as though the presbytery (the regional group of churches) can still decide. And of course, the local church can choose a pastor that is gay (or not). A lawyer friend of mine was saying how in a few years it will probably be federal law that you can’t descriminate on sexual orientation for ANY type of work, which would affect all churches.

They'll be the next church to have congregations defecting to the RCC. Lots of Anglicans are making the switch already.

The church that I was attending left PCUSA a few months back. They knew this was coming. The country/rural churches have been fighting their liberal city presbyteries for years about this. PCUSA hates Israel too so it stands to reason they’d hate Christ.

There are a lot of liberal city presbyteries that wanted this. The rural church that I was attending has fought their own presbytery for 10 years. They just recently left PCUSA.
