Other factors:
1. Religious believers tend to have 40% more children than atheists, and it was 1.5 for Vermont. Religious families has 2.1-2.5 kids, depending on beliefs. That more children within the population. Murder is overwhelmingly committed by 15-30 year olds. The higher murder rate may be linked to simply more people in that demographic range.
2. Broken families are a strong indicator of criminal behavior, and 2/3 of black children are illegitimate. Mississippi is majority black, though Louisiana is about 2/3 white. The majority black may explain the higher murder rate for Mississippi. And Louisiana has been a corrupt state for ages, with a high crime rate - witness Katrina “survivors” spiking the murder rate in Houston.

Atheists in places such as Denmark, et., are entering into other men’s labors, that being a Christian foundation, the effects of which does not disappear overnight.Where is theit a state founded by atheism? Communism is the most substantial testimony to what an atheistic State effects.

And as regard the money factor, etc. in the US, you should find this revealing. http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org/Statistical_Correlations.html

More stats:

Atheists, agnostics and people associated with non-Christian faiths are most likely to be politically liberal and least likely to say they are happy;

42% of atheists and agnostics (who make up approx. 9% of the American adult population) claimed to be stressed out , 14% said they were lonely, and 68% concerned about the future. 4% describe themselves as being conservative, 2% as being politically liberal, and 71% as having traditional or family-oriented values. 60% were concerned about America’s moral state.

Consistent with the public’s image of atheists and agnostics, they were the segment most likely to describe themselves as being politically liberal (32%) and were the group least likely to describe themselves as being conservative (4%) or as having traditional or family-oriented values (71%).

About four out of ten skeptics were registered as Democrats, four out of ten as independents and just two out of ten as Republicans. http://www.barna.org/barna-update/article/5-barna-update/80-peoples-faith-flavor-influences-how-they-see-themselves?q=atheists+stressed

Besides being the group that is least concerned about the moral condition of the nation (only 41% harbor such concern), they are also the group most likely to be affiliated with the Democratic Party (44%), most likely to define themselves as “mostly liberal” on current issues, and least likely to donate any money to a religious center or non-profit organization. Among those who did donate funds to non-profits, they gave away the least amount of money - less than 10% as much as the average evangelical donated during the year.

Three-quarters of the self-proclaimed atheists and agnostics say that all moral truth is relative to the person and circumstances; only 10% believe in absolute moral truth. Their views on morality are in extreme contrast to those of the two born again segments. For instance, seven out of ten believe abortion should be legal in all or most circumstances; six out of ten approve of clergy performing gay marriages; nine out of ten approve of cohabitation; more than three out of four embrace pornography as a moral behavior; and two-thirds deem drunkenness and using profanity to be morally acceptable acts.

As was true among the adults associated with non-Christian faiths, several million atheists and agnostics grew up regularly attending Christian churches (30%). As would be expected, their religious views vary widely from those who associate with Christianity. Just one out of ten believe that the Bible is totally accurate in all that it teaches; only one-fourth say their religious faith is very important in their life; and large majorities reject beliefs in the existence of Satan, the reality of the Holy Spirit, the notion of Jesus leading a sinless life, and a biblical depiction of the nature of God. http://www.barna.org/barna-update/article/5-barna-update/66-american-faith-is-diverse-as-shown-among-five-faith-based-segments?tmpl=component&print=1&layout=default&page=

Three-fourths of atheists and agnostics (76%) gave their vote to Sen. Obama, while only 23% backed Sen. McCain. That is a step up from the level of support Democrats have previously received from skeptics. In 2004, 64% of atheists and agnostics voted for Democratic challenger John Kerry.

Americans who do not identify with any religion now represent 15% of the USA - 22% of all adults ages 18 to 29; 19% of U.S. men and 12% of women. While 1 out 6 identify themselves as Nones, the ration is higher based upon belief and behavior. 61% of “Nones” believe in evolution. However, less than 10% of Nones identify themselves as atheists or hold atheistic beliefs, with 51% still professing a belief in God or a higher power. Only 32% report they were Nones at at age 12, and the largest single group (35%) of Nones were former Catholics. The highest concentrations of Nones are in New England and the West. Politically, 8% of Republicans are Nones, versus 21% of the nation’s independents and 16% of Democrats. Latinos have tripled their proportion among Nones. Atheists were also the least likely to look forward to spending time with friends. http://www.barna.org/barna-update/article/13-culture/145-americans-just-want-a-good-night-of-sleep?q=atheists+stressed

According to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life’s monumental “U.S. Religious Landscape Survey” that was issued in June, 21% of self-proclaimed atheists believe in either a personal God or an impersonal force. 10% percent of atheists pray at least weekly and 12% believe in heaven.

Paranormal beliefs are most prevalent in eastern states, with the highest percentages of agreement on eight of the 10 belief questions. Southerners are the least receptive to the paranormal, with the lowest percentages on six of the 10 items. http://www.baylor.edu/content/services/document.php/33304.pdf

On average, weekly churchgoers donate 3.8% of their income to charity, compared to 0.8% for those who never go. Independent Sector (charitable clearing house): Atheists won’t save Europe by Don Feder; http://www.frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=27937

Yep, and blacks have the highest rate of churchgoing in the country. You are better off living amongst secular Japanese and French then you are amongst certain devoutly Christian groups.

“Religious believers tend to have 40% more children than atheists”

True...see the documentary “Demographic Winter”. And then most of the “religious believers” that have these children will send them off to public school to learn from an institution dedicated to teaching the tenets of atheism. This leads to a very confused younger generation...mom and dad talk about God but send me to school to learn that there is no God...and then we wonder why...”. Murder is overwhelmingly committed by 15-30 year olds.”
