i don’t get why it was the church’s responsibility to call... if i thought my son were being abused, i would call the police... what is wrong with people that they don’t know how to do anything for themselves?.. again, people need to grow up and quit expecting to be hand held...

Article of FAITH

#11

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Agreed.

what is wrong with people that they don’t know how to do anything for themselves?.. again, people need to grow up and quit expecting to be hand held...

Well, let me introduce you to this cult called Mormonism. The victim's family was Mormon...and they trusted that their leaders would take care of it...which, of course, then, is simply what happens when you trust cult leaders and become such gullible followers.

i don’t get why it was the church’s responsibility to call...

This isn't at all at odds with your statement that it's also a parent's responsibility -- if for no other reason than once the Mormon church leaders found out about this from the victim's perspective, it was obligated BY LAW to contact the authorities. [So-called "clergy privilege" to opt out of reporting doesn't apply when sources other than the perp come forward]

Besides, besides the compulsion of law, there is such a thing as moral compulsion -- you know, like preventing this predator from continuing to prey on a minor for the next year until the family did finally get around to calling the authorities!
