Report: Human error, inadequate fire alarm contributed to Provo Tabernacle fire (Mormonism)
ABC4 (Salt Lake City) ^ | March 31, 2011

Posted on 04/10/2011 3:21:19 PM PDT by Colofornian

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Provo City Fire Department has released the full report on the December Provo Tabernacle fire.

The 135-page report outlines events leading up to the fire from December 17th that destroyed the historic landmark in Provo.

Trax Lighting and AV arrived at the Tabernacle a few days before the fire to setup lighting for a concert that was to be taped by BYU Broadcasting.

During the setup of a lighting truss, a technician said he set aside two lamps that were part of the in-house lighting system.

Fire officials believe these lights were placed too close to a speaker which started the fire two days later.

The report notes a number of circumstances and human errors that contributed to the unintentionally set fire.

Provo fire says the fire alarm in the building was inadequate and failed an inspection on December 2nd, two weeks before the fire.

The fire alarm system was only monitored in the building, meaning an alarm wouldn't automatically trigger a response from the fire department.

There was also not an automatic sprinkler system in the building that fire official believe would have controlled the fire.

The fire alarm system had a history of false alarms that may have have lead building personnel to "become apathetic to the system as a whole."

At 1:10am the morning of the fire, a fire alarm was triggered and a security guard disabled the alarm and did not contact the fire department, delaying a response to the fire by nearly an hour and a half.

Pigs snort. Are you a pig?

Are you an idiot?

**Snort = LOL (without spitting on the screen)

No, I am not Mormon stupid, did you read my previous posts?

Evidently not, if you did you would see I disagree with Mormonism.

That's the problem with these threads, posters react and do not read!

You Gentile you.....sounds like there is some anti semitism going on here too.

Did SOMEone say ANTI???

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind.

The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings.

This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race--that they should be the 'servant of servants', and they will be, until that curse is removed."

Brigham Young-President and second 'Prophet' of the Mormon Church, 1844-1877- Extract from Journal of Discourses.

Here are two examples from their 'other testament', the Book of Mormon.

2 Nephi 5: 21    'And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people, the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.'

Alma 3: 6    'And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a curse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men.'

August 27, 1954 in an address at Brigham Young University (BYU), Mormon Elder, Mark E Peterson, in speaking to a convention of teachers of religion at the college level, said:

"The discussion on civil rights, especially over the last 20 years, has drawn some very sharp lines. It has blinded the thinking of some of our own people, I believe. They have allowed their political affiliations to color their thinking to some extent.I think I have read enough to give you an idea of what the Negro is after."

"He is not just seeking the opportunity of sitting down in a cafe where white people eat. He isn't just trying to ride on the same streetcar or the same Pullman car with white people. It isn't that he just desires to go to the same theater as the white people. From this, and other interviews I have read, it appears that the Negro seeks absorption with the white race. He will not be satisfied until he achieves it by intermarriage."

"That is his objective and we must face it. We must not allow our feelings to carry us away, nor must we feel so sorry for Negroes that we will open our arms and embrace them with everything we have. Remember the little statement that we used to say about sin, 'First we pity, then endure, then embrace'...."

(Rosa Parks would have probably told Petersen under which wheel of the bus he should go sit.)

1967, (then) Mormon President Ezra Taft Benson said,

"The Communist program for revolution in America has been in progress for many years and is far advanced. First of all, we must not place the blame upon Negroes. They are merely the unfortunate group that has been selected by professional Communist agitators to be used as the primary source of cannon fodder."

We are told that on June 8, 1978, it was 'revealed' to the then president, Spencer Kimball, that people of color could now gain entry into the priesthood.

According to the church, Kimball spent many long hours petitioning God, begging him to give worthy black people the priesthood. God finally relented.

Sometime before the 'revelation' came to chief 'Prophet' Spencer Kimball in June 1978, General Authority, Bruce R McConkie had said:

"The Blacks are denied the Priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty.

The Negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow there from, but this inequality is not of man's origin, it is the Lord's doings."

(Mormon Doctrine, pp. 526-527).

When Mormon 'Apostle' Mark E Petersen spoke on 'Race Problems- As they affect the Church' at the BYU campus in 1954, the following was also said:

"...if the negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get celestial glory."

When Mormon 'Prophet' and second President of the Church, Brigham Young, spoke in 1863 the following was also said:

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God is death on the spot. This will always be so."

(Journal of Discourses, Vo. 10, p. 110)

I would probably want to rethink that part. Small group that acts most often yes. But we seem to have many friends pop over from time to time...

Opposition to Mormonism is not a unique thing, but folks have different focuses. Some sing some mow the yard at Chruch, all serve in the capacity they fit best.

My source is Jesus, the Son of God and the Bible. They are out voted in my book.

...but I don't bash it 24/7

Psst...

Guess what WE say about Christianity!

And WE say it for a whole YEAR or more!

But...

There's only 51,998 just like us out there, pounding on doors.

It's not like we have as vast a sales force as MaryKay® or anything...

You don’t see them viciously attacking others like you’ve done here. You aren’t turning Mormons away and you certainly aren’t winning any of them over to Christ.

More "omniscience" on your part?

You seem to know exactly how many "witnesses" occur daily between millions of Christians & Lds.
You seem to know who's being won over and who isn't @ any given time.
You seemed to know about some Mormon daughter I had of whose wedding I couldn't attend. (Let me know when you find that phantom daughter)
You seemed to pronounce some psycho-analysis of me as being rooted in "bitterness" from afar when all my Lds relatives have been as "decent" and (relatively) "good" as the ones you've mentioned on past threads where we've commented together. [My Lds relatives & friends have been at least cordial toward me; & some downright loving]

But I didn't know that meant Driftdiver 3:16 was applicable on these threads: "Withhold the Gospel truth from outwardly 'decent' and 'good' folk."

Since you accuse me of "viciously attacking" Lds in my post #1, do you belong to one of those Christian churches that simply disagrees with any mention of hell? Yes? (Or, I s'pose it could simply be your own temperament that doesn't have a thing to do w/your church...But, hey, unlike you, I at least ask on my assumptions rather than blurting them out as if omnisciently true)

What did you think of how Jesus mentioned hell several times?
What did you think of Jesus calling the Pharisees children of the devil in John 8? (Not a cool move on Jesus' part?)
What about all the times Jesus ragged on the legalists of His day?
Are Christians supposed to take pride in being "nicer than Jesus?" (Or what?)
Did Jesus witness distinctly to the Pharisees, than, say, the woman at the well? Did He come across "tougher" -- and even less "winsome" to the Pharisees than others? (Yes? No?)

Did you ever read about how Paul would regularly debate & refute & argue with Jews in the synagogue -- and Apollos joined him?
Is what they did simply "below" you? Something you would ne'er "stoop" to?

Mormonism sends out 52,000 missionaries worldwide every day, 24/7.

Dang!

Here I've wasted all this time at church today and come in late on these threads AGAIN!

One who has faith does not have to quote nor belittle to know....you don’t know.

But it is SO much better if you have SCRIPTURE to back up what you're doing...

The

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS

OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

SECTION 71

Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon, at Hiram, Ohio, December 1, 1831. HC 1: 238–239. The Prophet had continued to translate the Bible with Sidney Rigdon as his scribe until this revelation was received, at which time it was temporarily laid aside so as to enable them to fulfill the instruction given herein. The brethren were to go forth to preach in order to allay the unfriendly feelings that had developed against the Church as a result of the publication of some newspaper articles by Ezra Booth, who had apostatized.

1–4, Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon are sent forth to proclaim the gospel; 5–11, Enemies of the saints shall be confounded.

1 Behold, thus saith the Lord unto you my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, that the time has verily come that it is necessary and expedient in me that you should open your mouths in proclaiming my gospel, the things of the kingdom, expounding the mysteries thereof out of the scriptures, according to that portion of Spirit and power which shall be given unto you, even as I will.

2 Verily I say unto you, proclaim unto the world in the regions round about, and in the church also, for the space of a season, even until it shall be made known unto you.

3 Verily this is a mission for a season, which I give unto you.

4 Wherefore, labor ye in my vineyard. Call upon the inhabitants of the earth, and bear record, and prepare the way for the commandments and revelations which are to come.

5 Now, behold this is wisdom; whoso readeth, let him understand and receive also;

6 For unto him that receiveth it shall be given more abundantly, even power.

7 Wherefore, confound your enemies; call upon them to meet you both in public and in private; and inasmuch as ye are faithful their shame shall be made manifest.

8 Wherefore, let them bring forth their strong reasons against the Lord.

9 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you—there is no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper;

10 And if any man lift his voice against you he shall be confounded in mine own due time.

11 Wherefore, keep my commandments; they are true and faithful. Even so. Amen.

I could care less, I know the truth....does that shake you or scare you?

Can I assume that then you also know ERROR?

If true; do you feel you have any obligation to oppose ERROR with TRUTH?

There's a few dozen FREEPERS who challenge Mormonism's claims?

I think we need to set up a collection for some of our OWN statues and plaques!

But WHERE could we place them that so many gullible people could see them?
